New run of 54s

I actually am looking at this run with some serious interest. A large folder with a single blade is quite appealing to me. I like the spear blade on my #35, and certainly will not mind it on a larger frame. I like the sound of the red jigged bone with the oak leaf shield as well and will most likely preorder one tonight.

I wish they were doing one in Ebony this run. Since they aren't, the one I think I'm looking forward to is the Muslin Micarta SFO for KSF.
Ebony is going to be part of the Maher & Grosh SFO.

Lots of options on this bunch of #54's coming out in the next week to a month..... The 54 is a pretty big slippie and consistent with my love for the #42's.

aside from the DLT trading SFO, there aren't any northfield trim editions this time -- any thoughts on why? is the #54 just that much more suited to the working man's tidioute trim?

DLT contracted the original run and as such the factory will not run a competitive NF trim version for others. Only fair way to do it.

I agree. I believe the last batch of 54's was done just about a year ago as I recall seeing a number of them at the Blade Show at the GEC booth. I didn't buy then, but I was interested. There were just too many other knives there for me to get one.

thanks for the insight -- i'm still fuzzy on how this sfo business works. grateful for it, but fuzzy nonetheless!

In for a couple of the singles, a blood red and a burlap. The blood red is always gorgeous and the burlap sounds like an interesting choice for a work knife.

I signed up for a Blood Red from DLT today. I wanted a Blood Red Presidential for the longest time but they are long gone. Also I prefer the single blade anyways. Even slimmer and more pocket friendly.

Maybe good things do come to those who wait,,or who weren't smart enough to dive in when I had a chance last time. Dooh!

I guess I should've said that I wish they were doing a standard Tidioute version in Ebony this time around. The Maher & Grosh Ebony Moose will, I'm sure, turn out great, but the cost is also 50% more than a standard Tidioute version would be. (I already inquired out of curiosity.)

The Red River Acrylic doesn't look too bad, although I'm not sure I like the shield. I am, however, glad to see GEC using something other than the usually Tidioute or hotdog shield.

I don't think it's 50%, but it is certainly more than a regular GEC issue. I think this kind of pricing may well be the future of SFO's (unfortunately). I inquired also on the planned pricing. I know we aren't supposed to talk about price but it is really important as to whether or not I buy a knife (any knife). It seems to me that some folks that are getting the SFO's are pricing things from a collector point of view versus a "user" point of view due to what often happens with the secondary knife market. Single blade versions are almost always less expensive than multiple blade versions.

Added: Well, I just went to Collectorknives website and their SFO is much less expensive than the M&G and almost as you said 50%. I was going to get the M&G jigged bone version and now I may well reconsider as I would be just as happy with the oily bone.

I'm in on a burlap. Gonna be a nice working knife...at first I wasn't going to pull the trigger on one of these. But for some reason GEC's production pictures changed my mind.

Just got my Oily. Beautiful ... . F&F superb and the sheild looks nice on it.
As nice as this is, it screams use me.
On a side note I noticed the blade is the same size as the #74. I thought that it would be bigger but I guess design dictates.

The 2-bladers in ironwood are up for sale now, showing both sides of each individual knife.

If you are picky, get to shopping! ;)

I'm really loving the Beavertail. The jigging gives the wood an incredible grip. And while I normally prefer Northfileds with their swedges and long pulls, this Tidioute works for me. Everything about this knife scream function and hard use. I even dig the blade etch, and I usually hate blade etches. The shield is killer too.

It doesn't happen often, but I'm already placing my order for a second Beavertail. I already know that I'm going to use the heck out of this knife, and I'll be absolutely despondent if it gets lost.

I give it 9/10. If it were 440C or another flavor of upgraded stainless, it would get a 10/10.
