What are you guys looking forward most to in this run? Beer Scouts? Just the regulars? what covers? Would love to get a discussion started!

I have had a No.15 Soda Scout for about 8 months now (it wasnt new, had some patina to start), for me its about the perfect day to day knife for me. I love the sheepsfoot blade and I love how handy the cap lifter is for about a hundred different things. I find a secondary blade doesn't get much use from me but something I can use to screw, pry, twist, scrape is great.

It was a natural paper micarta colour, which didnt really do it for me. I love micarta (and even natural) I just like my micarta to have some visual texture (think linen or canvas).

I had also removed the bail because i found it bulky in pocket.

I saw a week ago or so that the new run of 15s will be in the same blade combo but with some different cover options. Some as just 15s without a shield or bail and some as Beer Scouts with the bail and shield logo. I pre-ordered myself a plain green linen micarta as for me it should be the perfect EDC.

I will try and carry mostly this for a long period and document the changes around this forum as well as on an instagram I have set up for it (when it arrvies, October?) If you are interested in following the instagram account is GEC_EDC

I preordered a Maroon Micarta Beer Scout. Very excited to try this pattern out. I love bone and wood too but modern(ish) materials on traditionals is always cool with me.

Good choice!

That is what I would have picked but I am not a huge fan of the Beer Scout Shield. I think micarta is about perfect for something that is going to get used a lot, it wont shrink or well or split etc. I think there are prettier covers out there but I will leave those for you guys to collect!

For sure. And I had to go with the Beer Scout because "BS" are my (regrettable) initials, so any Beer Scout I get comes pre-personalized, free of charge! Pretty cool of GEC to do that especially for me.

very nice of them indeed!

I love the beer scout, it is the knife that brought me over from modern to traditional folders. It is based on the 14 pattern, right? 14 with an easy open. I also love the Northwoods Michigan Jack which is the 15 size with an easy open, but like you said mort, that cap lifter is one hell of an EDC tool! I have one I got off the exchange here in pretty good shape in cocobolo. I've been pretty careful to avoid putting patina on it... the shimmering satin just looks so great on this one. It usually makes its way into my rotation when I'm going out with friends or to a party or something. I usually carry it in a collector knives thing and kept the bail for easy pocket pulling. I reserved a golden ale jigged bone for the next run.

The beer scouts are on the 15, so just a bit bigger. I had a cocobolo 83 (I sold it and the 15 for this new one) and it was awfully pretty!

I usually go right for some meat or an apple the first day then I dont have to worry about the patina anymore!

Yes I think once I get my next BS I will decide which I like more, sell the other and patina it up. Just want to keep it clean for now. I meant to say in my original post that I love your 2nd shot of the painta.

If the BS is the 15 pattern, what is the NW michigan jack on? It is slightly bigger

Your cocobolo BSK is amazing

yeah I love a good patina, the blue is from meat (chicken often etc)

I dont really know, ive only had 2 GECs knives (the 15 and the 83) and not any northwoods before

I'm looking forward to the beer barrel oak. The insides of the barrels were charred. I'm guessing they will have some areas with minor imperfections - dings in the barrel, recessed areas were metal bands were placed, print from the whiskey manufacture. I don't know if any of the normal imperfections found on a used whiskey barrel will end up in the final product.. I doubt it, but it's fun to think about. Either way, something about old whiskey cask oak with the beer scout shield really has me excited about the run.

those should be sweet looking! I don't think I have any preconception of what its going to look like, but should have some nice deep character

Michigan jack is a 77 frame. The Northwoods broadway jack is a 15 frame with EO.

I passed my last beer scout on to Randy, i m not really a fan of sheepsfoot 15s anyway. clip or spear im all for. even maybe the ancient. hesitated the other day on the for sale tho. nbd

Thank you for the compliment, and the information on the patina. I loved the cocobolo so much it made me get my Fox River LT in the closest possible matching one, I think I picked a winner

It might be hard for me to like my new BSK more now with this combo... but I might have a hard time letting go of the second one. I guess we'll see what happens

Also, to quote our friend Bob from another thread (concerning pattern sizes of relevant Northwoods knives):

Yes. Based on the 77 frame.
Broadway Jack= 15 pattern

The Michigans are 77s, the smaller broadways are 15s, and it is the even smaller fremont jacks with no easy open that are the 14s. That's what I was confused with.

Fremont is much bigger than the #14. It's on a GEC #79 frame.

Ty for the correction, CBR. I have never handled a 14. Reminds me I need to go watch Charlie Mike's video on his new one

These do look very similar!

I hope I can ask here but where are yall preordering these? Do you have to go direct through gec or do you go to the different distributors?

Gotta love cocobolo. Amazing looking wood. I can never not buy the cocobolo in each GEC release. It's a sickness.
