Just got off the phone with crk, the small is now 330.00 and the large i think was 385.00. I have no problem with this slight price increase . A knife of this quality is still a good deal in my book even at 330.00. As long as the quality is always there, i have no problem with price.

Hi Dave,

The traditional LE woods (non premium) will be;

Small $535.00
Large $590.00

take care, Neil

PS- CRK's first general price increase since 2000......

Hello Trane Fan,

All the knives are up in price- except for the 2 Geeen Beret knives, which are still at $299.00 & $289.00

The regular wood Mnandi is now $350.00.
Premium woods are higher.

Accessories are up as well; for example, the Leather Belt Pouch is now $42.00 (was $38.00).

Double thumblugs are $35.00- was $31.50

Take care, Neil

I always thought the Mnandi was too good a deal for too long. With the SHOT show coming up the company probably wanted to get the new prices established for the years new orders.

The prices have not changed at the CRK web site. Does that mean you can still buy them direct at the 2004 prices?

I hardly call the increases "slight" at nearly 12% for the large Sebbie. Oh well, I'll just have to try and stock up on the ones already in stock at respectable dealers.... I have to say that, though the knives are great, CRK is now PUSHING the envelope of what I would call "fair" prices for his knives. And I was thinking about ordering some engraved models from CRK as birthday presents for some close friends. Guess I'll have to find a dealer with some in stock at the "old" price structure.

Peace.

Fair is relative. The market dictates price. At 2004 prices CRK has I think at least a 6 month backlog as far as folders go. A price increase may reduce the backlog to a more reasonable length. Even at 2005 prices the knives are still a good deal. I think in 10-20 years CRK knives will fetch a pretty penny. I'll continue to get at least one Sebenza per year, and that would be the large LE. Fair is like beauty and is in the hands of the beholder/buyer.

I am a dealer- I do not work for the Chris Reeve company- I only represent them.

There has not been a price increase in 5 years- since 2000. During this time, material, S30V is a good example, rent, titanium, machinery, UPS and FedEx increase their rates every year, staff salaries, factory improvements, and a hundred other factors have all played a part in this price increase.

Only you, the retail consumer, can decide if the knife is still worth it to you.
For my website store, I have placed huge orders at the new prices- the knives are terrific and sell very well.

Many of the emails I have received from customers are mainly their regret and chagrin at not having placed their orders before the price increase. These things happen. I feel badly for them, but I too was not aware and would have placed my orders earlier to get the old price- but I did not.

The bottom line- if you want the knife, then buy it. I understand that it will cost you a bit more- that is unfortunate but I assure you, the knife is worth it even at $25.00 more.

Also, look for many custom knifemakers to follow along- Prices for steel and accessories like pivots, screws, drill bits, electricity and grinding belts are all going up every day. These guys just can’t continue to absorb all this and will have to raise up some prices.

I understand and appreciate your frustration and concern- but, if you want it, then you will have to pay for it. In the end, you will still love it- even if it is a few bucks more.

Take care, Neil

My sentiments. . . .exactly. :)

Prior to the increase I had decided, kind of like Scott, to buy 2 Mnandi's per year. The price increase has done nothing and will do nothing to change my plans. Price increases happen, they're part of living in a capitalist/free society. CRK knives are still, IMNSHO, the best knives out there and are a bargain. ;)

I certainly understand the price increases, I don't have a problem with that.

If I'm thinking about a LE wood, that's not that far away from a Tom Mayo in the secondary market. So I will have to be a little more choosy.

I still plan on buying another Mnandi later this year.
How many "customs" can compare at $350? Not many.

Paul

I ordered a large regular sebenza direct from CRK the first week of Jan. with a delivery date sometime in March. I just got off of the phone with CRK and the increase will be effective Jan. 15 going forward. From a business perspective I understand the increase, however I'm thankful it doesn't apply to me :D

I agree. Even into the $400 - $500 range. And they are all perfect for the most part where as the customs could vary widely. I've owned around 12 and they ALL locked up like a bank vault, no issues what so ever.

later,

Oily
