so I guess the we is your clan of ninja again right? And no fighter in the world could ever hope to win in a fight against a ninja?

As to the first post, sounds like it might be cool, as long as they are willing to beat their hosts, which might not be allowed. So you know it cant be thought of as real a measure of effectiveness as the cage. And in a sense the cage has already exhibited and evalutated fighting styles for unarmed man to man fighting in a much more honest and real way than this tv show could hope to. But like it said it will have lush landscape.

Danny there is alot more to you and to life than being a ninja. Try to get that man.

Shipwreck, if you would read some of Danny's other threads and posts, you will see that he does, indeed, understand that there is more to life than being a ninja both the great joys and great sorrows.

As far as the show goes, it sounds like it might be pretty cool. I'm sure it will not go so far as to be a peeing match as to what art is "better". It will probably just showcase the absolute dedication to one's art, the discipline that the body must undertake to excel, and the respect that people of various martial art backgrounds garner for one another through combat sparing and experience.

If the wife doesn't haul me out tonight, I'll give it a watch. Thanks for the heads up, Ted:thumbup:

Too bad I am going to be at a Harry Potter party.
I have the energy drinks in the fridge so I can start in on it and possibly knock it out either tomorrow or sunday.

This sounds like it would be interesting. Reminds me of an older show where this French woman did a similar trip around the world to train under various disciplines.

I always like to see more examples of Kalari-Payat, since you don't tend to see a lot of it in the mainstream media. Especially interesting to me is the "otta" weapon... like an s-shaped baton that can be used to tangle and manipulate limbs and hit pressure points.
Pencak Silat looks interesting too.

As per pitting styles against one another, it seems that the only general formulae for success involves being eclectic, using both very basic and effective techniques, combined with a comprehensive knowledge of the physics and principles involved in combat, with a variety of more specialized techniques thrown in for occasions such as grappling. Someone in ancient Rome once described Pankration as "Imperfect boxing combined with imperfect wrestling", though the more versatile fighter will generally have an edge in such no-holds barred contests.

I think Danny's statement reflects confidence rather than arrogance. Am I right?
I studied Tae Kwon Do in my youth. I would now like to learn something about an art, called, I believe, Kali. Does anyone here know anything about this art?

I was just trying to be funny. Another dismal failure.
They could show up here, though. That could happen. The Mind, body and kickass moves crew came. MTV came. Alot of people have come.

What is a harry potter party? I notice Harry has developed a taste for asian women. God help him.

Kali is a pretty brutal art from the Philippines. Do a search for Dog Brothers, they are pretty crazy guys.

You might want to look at Silat, a MA from Indonesia also.

LOL, I think you're funny Danny. Of course, I laugh at all of your jokes from fear that you will totally flip out and start flying and stabbing if I don't:D

I have no idea what is up with Pottermania. I haven't read the books...yet. There won't be a party when I decide to read them, however.

Before the final fight they bowed to honor the Buddha's Four Noble Truths: Compassion, Temperance, Justice, and Prudence.

I hope they were more accurate about Mauy Thai.

Too bad I missed it-sounds fun. I'm stuck in a hotel right now for some treatment, and I could use a little entertaining TV. Most isn't very good these days. Pretty much, History Channel and Discovery Channel, and news channels have most of the the stuff worth watching in my opinion. Will it be on again at the same time?

And, Shipwreck, take it easy about Danny. He has earned our respect in many ways time and again. I do believe he could teach us all a little something about life, and not just his martial arts.

Chris

Good to see ya, Chris. Things going OK? Treatments aren't too bad, are they?

Treatments haven't really started yet - we're still in the runup and preparations for a bigger treatment. Here goes nothing...

Anyhow, I'm all right. Just saw this show tonight, BTW. Pretty good. Sounds like it's these two guys' goal to compile the knowledge they gain from as many martial arts as they can to become some sort of conglomerate super-warrior. Interesting idea, and they're more than respectful of the cultures they visit. Overall, cool show in my book!

Chris

Ooh, another form that springs to mind upon seeing muay thai in posts is its Burmese equivalent, Lethwei, which is supposedly even more brutal than muay thai. It is said that fatalities among its practitioners in matches are not uncommon.

I am morbidly fascinated.
