New show - Human Weapon

Seriously, though, they might come for a visit. If they do I'll try to get my face on camera if I can...for the honor of the Cantina!
Viva La Cantina!!
Viva Uncle Bill!

Maybe you can spar the big guy. That'd be cool.

Do Ninjas actually spar? I can kinda imagine where they would have the big guy on camera, then pan away to take in the dojo; then as they pan back to where he was there would be nobody there - just his boots. They would find him later on, hog tied on the hood of their car, wearing a cryptic sign that reads: "Cantina Rules!"

Hehe. I like this.

Yeah, that was one thing I noticed--not nearly enough time with an art form to perfect it. But, interestingly, I don't think that's their goal. Seems to me that they want to get some moves, techniques, feelings, etc. from a whole ton of different martial arts and try to mesh them all within their minds and bodies to form some sort of conglomerate superfighter people. It doesn't strike me as very likely that it will work, but it's still a lot of fun to see the different styles and their core stuff. In the end, I'm guessing the world champion of each style will probably still kick their butts, but at least we (and they) will have learned something in the process.

:)

I would love to be the guy they try out, but the movie stars all want personal attention from Sensei. (because they are special, right?)
I dont want to be a star, I just want to make sure they understand that this isnt what it looks like.

Nam,
Allow me to bring a few things to your attention.IF...either of these guys would have been fighting ...outside the ring...it would have been over "very"fast! Forget the long back & forth...kicks, blocks etc.Same thing in the ring....only there are rules...so they would have been hurt probably very badly! As I stated prev.they were PROS...go back & look at the guy in the ring....he wasn't even going half speed...also notice "no crowd"it would be similar to Spir,Danny,or me just playing tag.If you think those 2 will get to the point where it's"real"guess again...it ain't gonna happen!Years ago...writer named Plimpton practiced & played in a pre-season game...with the LIONS...PROS...NAILED HIM! Same would happen here.Look ,learn & enjoy arts you may never see again or never have heard of...it's GREAT! Sorry for the RANT!
THE DUCK!

Well, Plimpton was a writer, these guys are actually pro fighters, just in different disciplines. I don't believe for a second they could ever beat a champion using only his style, but they should be able to hold there own using their own techniques.

Of course, they'll never get to that point, because someone could get injured.

I think its pretty cool. I don't like that the guys seem a little arrogant, especially the big guy, but its a neat show. They don't have (at least yet) a "fight science" thing going on where they have TMA's coming in and wowing the science nerds.

Not surprising that a guy who's trained Muay Thai most of his life is going to easily handle a guy who hasn't, but at least the guy is a fighter, not a football player, etc. Maybe they can do a segment where they fight they fight the muay thai expert in an MMA match?

I liked it. I'm not sure if I'll still like it by the end of its run but it's off to a good start.

I was going to say more or less the same thing. An MMA practitioner would be stripped of his usual arsenal in a formal match in another style. Taking even a champ from a formal style into MMA can be interesting. Muay thai has been fairly effective in MMA competitions though from what I hear, but it is practically always in combination with some competent ground skills.

Downloaded the first episode and will have to watch it when I have time.

I still like it.

They're being seemingly careful to avoid B.S. I, for one, appreciate that.

As a former judoka I'm looking forward to next Friday's episode, obviously. ;) I've liked all since then however.

My wife even likes the show:eek: She is most definitely a girly-girl. We caught part of an episode while we were getting ready to meet friends for dinner while we were in Vegas.

Me: "Come on, honey, they're waiting for us."
Her: "Just a second..."
<<minutes pass>>
Me: "OK, hon, the reservations are at 9. We gotta get going."
Her: "Hang on a sec...I wanna see if this guy gets his @$$ beat with those sticks."

I really love my wife:D

I find it interesting that the big guy has fought to a draw in both his matches and the smaller guy lost both his. The big guy doesn't compare on technique, but he just powers through the fight and overpowers the other fighter. He can take so much punishment it's not funny.

I actually watched the eskrima episode tonight. I got the feeling that the instructors didn't really want to show them anything too serious. (I have seen that situation before, many times) Nobody wants to take reponsibility for someone getting hurt or teaching potential terrorists how to kill via television. Hatsumi Sensei has stated this many times and you know, it's just common sense. It's a tv show, show business, entertainment, that's all. In that regard, it is probably pretty good. I'd rather watch it than oprah...

I'd rather watch Oprah learn eskrima and fight its world champion. That would be worth watching!

Chris

Too bad they won't include the American Martial Art of pistolcraft. It would be interesting to have these guys step completely outside their comfort zone and have to shoot a long USPSA stage!

Andy

You know, they should have to go to some kind of handgun defense training place.
(We are encouraged to do so and we train with plastic pistols almost as much as we do with shuriken.)
Absolutely. I wonder how the big guy would feel seeing red paintballs explode on his chest time after time...

Chris

I would pay money AND stand in line to see that!!

:p

Andy

p.s.: Just a random thought. How much would you pay to shoot Rosie O in the chest with Simunition!
