I guess that it hadn't occured to me, but a true kriss should be canted more like it had a pistol grip. There would be something to say for one that swung out about 120-degrees from the closed position to the opened position rather than almost 180-degrees.
Jeff, I think that you are right. Wait till you hold one of those. I am not sure how true to the original design this is-- I actually think that it is more of a "traditionally-inspired" design if you know what I mean. It is certainly comfortable to hold in your hand, and it is meant to function as a user.
(Of course, I may not know what I am talking about, Sal and Ed can certainly jump in and correct me if I am wrong.)
I have a custom version of this, and although fancier and a bit different, the basic shape is the same. The hand is in a very comfortable postion for cutting. It also sits very comfortably in the hand using the 3 martial-arts grips that I am accustomed to (although this is certainly not what I primarily use the knife for).
I will be purchasing a few of these. I heartily recommend to everyone that they hold one in their hands before making any judgements on comfort/utility.
As far as looks, goes, well, to each their own. I see a beauty in this knife--
but what do I know about beauty? I buy, and use, Spyderco knives.
edited to add: that red bit is sarcasm, which I am not very good at.
