New Strider failure

Yup, strider striping blades and heat striping titanium slabs aren't about bling, but actually increase knife performance 231%. :p
Y
that my choice of performance over bling is wrong, and my perceptions and opinions mean nothing.

I really have issues with them, to be even handed. Or did. The striping will wear off, and at some point the blade will get a 600 finish. Strider could have easily left it in black from the oven and I would have been happier.

The heat striping on the Ti, well, it really helps to cut down the flashiness. People stared at the 887 Buck with stainless liners. The Ti and Ranger green Strider gets much less looks. Striders certainly have a lot less bling in my mind, compared to a blue Bump.

Considering the customer base and their requirements (and a user reported his experiences in the field a page or two back,) I'd would have loved to take a Strider. It's built to the performance standards the maker feels are important. Not yours or mine, but as a fellow Man of the Year Internet user, your opinion is certainly as good as mine. :D

I sure wish you hadn't mentioned the 231% increase in performance, now all the copycats will pile on.

I'm one of those guys who just likes Striders. I have had some good luck with them, and some bad, but I like the knives enough to keep giving them my $$.

I like the Sebbies too, but just keep coming back to the Striders. - There's just something about them that I really like over all the other knives I have had and used.

But then again I'm weird. I'll carry a Seb for a while, and then carry a Strider, and the cycle just continues..

Be Well, and Merry Christmas to all!!!

There ya go. Now everyone can quit arguing! Sheesh!

You kidding? This could easily get to 20+ pages, even when there's nothing else to talk about concerning the original post (which is about 95% of the posts in this thread, including this one!).

STRIDER FANBOY ZEALOTS vs. (MICK) STRIDER HATERZ

Who will win? ? ?

(Usually the ones that yell the loudest.)

About the emerson thing, it's just something I read about a couple months back here. You're right, there's no real proof it actually happened though.

Josh, thanks for the offer, i think it's best i send the SNG back to you.
The lockbar engages on the sloping part of the tang and has a tendency to slide a bit back under pressure.
Also you don't have to re-imburse me for the shipping, i would be perfectly happy with a new SNG in any colour.
:)

Do i use the adress below ?

Thanks again,

I had the same issue with an SMF. I contacted Neil (TKN) from whom I had bought it a week or so earlier and Neil responded within 24 and as others have suggested here. Neil asked me to send it back and he would cover the shipping and make sure it was sorted out. I sent my SMF directly to Strider since it would be a bit silly for me to send it from Tokyo (my residence) to Canda, and then have Neil send it to the US. I have not gotten the SMF back yet but since it arrived there around the holiday time I am in no hurry and I expect most people are more interested in being with family and so on. Point is, contact the seller you bought it from. if they are half decent (Neil has been very good) they will do what it takes to make sure that you get what you paid for.

side note: the RC and the SNG I bought from Neil are great no issues at all.

I have only ever had one Strider, an SnG. It was tight as a drum when I first got it, but did develope blade play over the next few months. I sent it back to Strider, and they fixed it and had it back to me within a week, and they even reembursed me for the shipping. It has been super tight with absolutely no play since. It is the knife that I usually EDC (along with a Fallkkniven U2 in case I need a knife around the sheeple, LOL)

So, as much as it pissed me off that my $400 knife developed a problem, I have nothing but goog things to say about their customer service. For what its worth I have sent back both Spyderco's (Paramil) and Benchmade's (Apparition) for similar problems. They were both also fixed, but it took over a month both times.

What does this say about Stirder's QC? Hell I don't know, just thought I would share my experience. Whould I buy another Strider? Sure, but there are a lot of other things ahead of it on my "to buy" list.

And just for fun I will tell you that I never use my SnG for anything but the absolute most hardcore duties, as evidenced by the following pic:

cheers.

Its kind of like a right of passage....you buy a strider knife and either love it and defend the brand for life, have a problem with it and take 14 pages of rebuttal from strider owners justifying their purchase, or think its just another knife and it ends up in rotation ;) I just like the conversations the posts bring up. They always seem to point out a weird gray area of communication where a user is supposed to inherently know what is a flaw vs a design feature and also then be required to fully attempt to have all flaws fixed and cleaned up prior to their posting about them.

Yep ... after 2 or 3 years of lengthy ..... :barf: Strider threads ... I think this sums things up pretty well. I'd still like to have one ... Just can't afford it.

I just got one in a trade today. Traded quite a few decent knives for it but they weren't knives I really cared for. I've been wanting an sng for a while, so I went for it. -In any event, this perticular sng is in good shape so far. Locks up nicely, blade's centered, and very sharp. No scratches or other noticable imperfections. The dealer musta been screwing with it, because I actually had to tighten up the clip a bit. I look forward to seeing how one of these performs first hand finally. Whether it's good or bad, I'll chime back after a while. My expectations are pretty high for now.
