New Strider Pivot

So, I noticed some Strider PT's on the market with a new pivot. It appears that it will require a specialized 3 pin tool to adjust the tension on it. Anybody know why they changed them from the old hex head version. Is there a practical reason, are they trying to sell more specialized tools, or are they trying to prevent people from messing with the tension on their own.

I haven't the slightest idea, but there's always the supply portion too, maybe they ran out of the old style, or the new style is a significant improvement to the old one.

haha, now LaBella and I look overly enthusiastic.

it's very strange though. maybe all of the new striders have it, in an effort to stop people from taking them apart or adjusting the pivot.

It really does not get more practical than that I am afraid. But, I'm sure some people will be creative in ruining those pivots too.

Might be that Strider doesn't want people taking their knives apart. ;)

They have gotten way too many back that have been screwed up over the years...

I'm glad I have one of their older PT's...
The standard pivot is one of the reasons I like it, easy maintenance.
I don't take it apart on a regular basis but the action goes loose a little once in a while
and it's nice to be able to tighten it up as needed.

It seems like every nice folder needs it's particular special pivot tool now and I don't get it.

Yeah damnit! And we are so totally NOT enthusiastic, damnit! :D :foot: ;) :p

I think it's a little weird how some manufacturers like Emerson try to make pivot adjustments as easy as possible. Most manufacturers seem to accept it as a part of the end user experience, and torx drivers are readily available... but companies like Microtech (off and on) and Strider, with their customized pivots, kinda baffle me.

It shouldn't really. ;)

They have gotten tons of them back that have been so screwed up by people taking them apart and pimping them etc that they even have gone so far as to change their warranty.

I do NOT want to start a Strider thing here, but I would SINCERELY like to believe that this was not done to prevent people from taking these things apart.

Let us explore the logic in that decision. The typical Strider buyer appears to me to be the sort of guy that really supports the idea of insane hard use (or there are the other guys that put them in safes...but I think it is safe to say that there are predominantly 2 types of Strider buyers, and the ones sticking them in safes are not the ones jacking up pivots).

The ones that beat the crap out of their Striders are pretty accustomed to using whatever means they have available to get the job done, and they do not back down from challenges...right? Am I wrong so far?

This new pivot only poses a challenge that I think many moders will rise to (or destroy even worse than the chainring bolts on the old models)...therefore I would really like to believe that the move was made for a different reason.

...it is just my 2 cent conjecture and rationale for it.

I was repeating what was said by Strider over on the Greener forum. ;)

What they said was a bit more colorful shall we say. ;)

They should at least sell an official low-cost pivot tool for people that want to simply adjust the pivot. Just put a warning saying to not take the knife apart.

Guess I'm poor, but I don't consider $27 to be low cost...

That's a lot more affordable than the $70 Hinderer tool kit I was looking at though.

Fair enough.

...errr...wait a second. You were repeating that the warranty changed and Strider does not want the knives taken apart by users...

Did Mick say that this was the reason for the pivot change, though?

I need to hang out over there a little more I guess;)

Hey, I also would like to clarify that this and the previous post were not intended to be snide, offensive, or otherwise convey any negative tone toward anyone. Respect to all!

Come on and look harder. Past the initial page.

The Hinderer tool kit is nice, but the simple tools are often better. I have one of the TORX / Spanner combos that a member here was selling a while back.
