New Truck advice requested

Sounds like you already have your mind made up. Anyways, happy buying, I am sure the Toyota will serve you well.:)

One more parting option. Dodge Ram SRT-10 500HP naturally aspirated.:D

Good Luck:thumbup:

I really don't have my mind make up, really....I just researched both of the vehicles above more in depth then the others....I'm not at all anti-Dodge, just anti what dodge has done in my region.

But....no on the SRT...it is not a user friendly vehicle ,and it sells for around $50k.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

My wife and I LOVE our Hemi's :D

I know you can supercharged these guys, duals.... 22 inch wheels, fat rubber, bed rails.. Spray in liner, new grille, maybe a cowl hood (all though I like the smooth look of the factory hood,) order a set of OEM buckets

Now we are talking HOT!!! :D

F the truck and get a bike. Way less cash, way *mo'fasta* and you don't need a step stool to get into it. Maybe training wheels if your feet don't touch the ground?:D

I have a HotRod floating around somewhere that has my dream truck. 2005 Chev short bed 4X4 with a swapped in turbo 6L. Launches in 4wd and smokes many an unsuspecting driver. Great, practical sleeper.

Or maybe look for a Dakota R/T. With the coin you save buying a used one- you can rod the hell out of that thing. the 5.9s are pretty good motors and lots of aftermarket for them.

Out of the two you mentioned- 'yota.

man go with the Ford or the Toyota.. Those "american" companies' workers (the majority) are not in the US. GM is moving to china, Dodge too.. The more american made truck is the Tacoma/Tundra. I wish they would have let GM tank. The fucked themselves and now we got fucked bc they chose to fuck themselves.. You wont see me buying their shit. Two faced faggots. Nothing but crooks. Atleast Ford had the balls not to take bail outs and correct themselves. i have heard nothing but good things coming from the newer trucks they produced..

Get the Tundra!! I wouldn't give Ford or GM any of my money. Although, Ford made me a great backyard mechanic.

The Ford may be getting better. This new Taurus SHO looks nice and the Lincoln MKX that I rented a while back was pretty nice too. But the fact of the matter is that the engine in the Tundra is pretty much the same block that they are putting in the mega dollar Land Cruisers and the big Lexus models and American made Toyota vehicles are not only about the best normal affordable vehicles being built in the US, but some Toyota guys would tell you off the record that they may be the best ones that the company sticks a Toyota badge on anywhere in the world. The boys at the home office LOVE their workers at the Camry plant in Kentucky and Toyota perhaps grudgingly admits that it is consistently one of their three highest rated plants in the world. That is why they pay guys who drive a golf cart around delivering parts to the line $85,000 a year. And like a previous poster said, US made Toyotas have as much or sometimes more "local" content than a lot of US cars and that is even with Canadian made parts counting as "local" for the Big Three. i never would have said this until Toyota opened that Camry plant and showed the rest of the industry that you could build affordable cars of VERY high quality (that you aren't embarrassed to be seen driving) in the US for less than in Japan or Europe

I drive a diesel Toyota Hilux 4x4 and I am HAPPY!

Those are sweet.... I've never driven one, but I have heard they handle decent too.

If you want a "go fast" truck, you should look into a diesel truck. For about the price of just the supercharger, you could add a good exhaust, tuner package, nice rims/tires, a good locker in the rear, maybe a propane kit and couple of other support items. Easily get 400-500 hp and world pulling "tork" and still knock down 18+ mpg.

Since you are interested in the Tundra, I thought I would chime in. I have the 2007 model double cab SR5 with the towing package. I love it right now. It has been a very good choice and it is getting higher gas milage then I thought it would. In all fairness, if I'm racing around the gas mileage falls a lot but, normal commutes around town run about 18.5MPG. I get around 17MPG in stop and go traffic downtown which is pretty impressive for a pickup this heavy. In terms of power, doing 80MPH I can punch it and pass just about anything with minimal effort.

I would suggest driving one for a while before you start modding it. The SuperCharger is a little specialized and not a good choice if you are going to work this pickup with a travel trailer or boat.

The only real upgrade I'm considering right now is the TRD brakes since I run larger 20" tires with a lot more weight in them. The factory brakes are fine but, wear a little fast with the additional weight in each tire.

I wouldn't really call it a mid-life crisis but, my choice came down to a Dodge PowerWagon or a Toyota Tundra. The Tundra was a lot cheaper with perceived better reliability and gas milage. I added a mild 3" lift which accommodates tires up to 35". It came with the cat back exhaust and I'm going to add a coated header to cut engine bay heat and add a little additional horsepower. Upgraded TRD brakes will most likely come with the first brake job. Add a few Hella lights, a Pre-Runner bar it will be pretty much "bling'ed" out for me.

Get a 64 Chevy Fleetside and drop a 502 crate motor in it.
New trucks are junk.

+1!! I've got a '64 Fleetside. My grandad traded a '48 Ford for it in 1964. Drove it on the farm 'til he retired, drove it around town 'til the doctor made him quit driving. He gave it to my dad who dropped in a '72 350 and drove it back and forth to work for 15 years before he gave it to me. I've had it since '95 and I drive it at least once a week. It still earns it's keep.

Over the last 34 years I've had 13 pickups. 1 GMC, 1 Ford, 1 Chevy Luv(made by Isuzu), 3 Dodges and 7 Chevies.

The '77 3/4 ton GMC was the fastest, clocked in excess of 130mph.

The '80 Luv was the most maintenance free and would go absolutley anywhere you were brave enough to take it. It was like having a street legal 4wheeler with air conditioning.

The last Dodge I had ('96) lasted 192,000 miles, was only limited by it's width as far as off-road capabilities and on the track it cornered like it was on rails.

The Ford ('07) is ok, but it lacks ground clearance and just feels 'heavier' than the Dodge, even though they're about the same size.

All of the Chevies were just vehicles. Good, reliable transportation, but not inspiring.

If I were spending my money on a truck, I'd spend it on a Dodge. 2nd choice would be the Toyota. But since it's your money, buy what speaks to you.

Stock tundra is fast as balls.
But a 6.0 mangacharged, blackbear tuned, Doug Thorley Headers, it will be so much nicer than the tundra. But im a chevy man.... :D

Or buy a Toyota Tundra built in Austin, Texas. My previous Ford product was built in Canada.

Same here. I drive a GM company truck also. But my Toyota is a better. I have a Ford 150 my personal truck and Toyota. I like Ford better than the GM but the Toyota out classes them both. And I want to buy another Ford or Chevy but I just can seem to spend my hard earn $$ on them. Maybe I'll try a Dodge never had one of those :). I'm talking a few years from now. But these are the current truck I drive. My wife drives the Toyota so actually it's not mine :)

I have been mainly a Ford lover for many years. My 2005 F-150 Lariot was and still is the finest truck I have owned. That said, it never had the speed type of power the Chevys have. Better pulling torque but not the balls to the walls speed type power that can be so fun. That may change though with the new F-150 Raptor. This truck sounds like fun and with a 6.2 liter engine available maybe Ford will have the umph to go with their new truck. This may be worth looking at.

In the end though, it is what truck calls to your heart. Just like our love of knives. There is no right or wrong, only what we personally enjoy.
Get what you like best and love the hell out of it!

As far as "buy American" goes I do believe that Chrysler is the only one of the big three who makes and sells anything close to the majority of its vehicles in North America. Ford has been one of the top automakers in Europe for decades even before the bought Volvo, etc.and was, at one time in the mid 80's before the post fall automaker buying spree by the Euro companies, bigger than VW in Germany. They still may be number 2. GM is the same way. The vaunted Pontiac GTO of recent years was actually a Holden Monaro built in Australia and given a face lift for the Us market. Most of your larger rear drive auto chassis in the GM fleet today are based on a Holden design. The big Saturn sedan and one of their other cars are rebadged Opels.

I'm a Ford truck guy big time. Been driving Fords for 20+ years at work and play. My 08 F450 (wrecker) has 83,000 on it now, and I drive it like I stole it. It's holding up okay, but not like they used to (sigh). I also have an 01 Seqouia with 174,000 on it, and she's still like new. I love both of them, but the Toyota is the better truck. I just had a (Toy master tech) buddy do a major service on the Toy, and he couldn't find a single thing to add to the list of work after the preventive maint I asked him to do. I'll always love Fords, but Toyota's friggin rock.
