NEW TYRADE IS HERE thread!!!!

I just have to have one also. The way the D2 steel peeks out from the 154cm steel is enough to make a samurai jealous .

Kershaw was ready to ship as of yesterday. can't speak to when they pulled or will pull the trigger

OE, awsome pics with the Offset. looks like they are fairly similar in size, but the Tyrade is drastically thinner. both look awsome!

I am just going to venture a guess as to blade fabrication.
Using a wire EDM cut the puzzle piece pattern in 154cm and D2.Then lay copper in between the two steels and fire in hydrogen furnace to braze the two together. The puzzle pattern should give the extra mechanical strength to the copper braze to meet demands of the knife in EDU(every day use).
cheers all

Wowzers, Ionbond with a cameo...excellent (that was my best Mr. Burns impression btw)

Thomas.......(off topic a bit)...... why is the Kershaw website not being updated with all the new stuff.....I used to ONLY look there and on the E-sites for all my knives...but now that I've found this place.

I can't answer for Kershaw, and as a customer it frustrates me too.... BUT I understand. I work for a large manufacturer in their marketing dept. Manufacturers have a tendancy to not be very promotionally driven. We have to constantly push for more resources. We also only sell thru dealerships, who pick up a lot of the responsibility for promotions. The web site is important, but with limited resources, it's not at the top of our list in the midst of product launches. the emphasis is often on new product development (speed to market), and collateral tools and incentives that are above the web site on the priority list. Also, with the new product that the consumer always wants to be coming, it's very difficult to constantly maintain certain tools with limited resources. Usually these items are update only periodically

So are we to take it that Ionbond is responsible for the welding of the composite blades? If so, can he or would he care to elaborate on the process? I think we have the wire EDM down.

and he's gone....like the wind...at least we got a shot of his cool car.

We try not to push too much with new products on the site. If the knife is not available, it brings on a rash of calls that interrupt regular business. Everyone wants details and specs that may or may not be the same by the time the knife reaches full production.
With the debut of a new product it can also be difficult to predict a launch date. Just look at all you frothing at the mouth with the latest new items. Hell I know all the new items for the first half of 08, but I ain't mentioning nothing, cause you'll cry yourselves to sleep and drive me crazy till they ship.

This is a great place for new products info (although I will be holding back more), or here on the site.

BTW, we did ship 3 new items in Oct. alone, Tanto Groove's, Tyrade's, and Ti/SG2 JYD II's.

Kneedeep,

I would like to have a private discussion with Thomas before I start to elaborate on the process. This is not something that Ionbond does or offers, the only thing Ionbond is involved with is the coating of the titanium handles.

I covered three different ways to achive the bonding of the composite blade method. This was the most productive and cost effective way for production knives.
