New web specials

Looks like they still have imported Diamondback Outfitters. That's a fixed blade. That's sort of close, no? :D

Well, it is a Buck and it is a fixed blade but the similarity ends there. ;)

Nod. That was my point/lame joke.

The 118 sells out in what, a few hours and then I look at the Diamondback and say, what were they thinking making that?
I have no problem understanding left overs from variants of product lines like the standard 100 series fixed blades, the Alpha hunters, Omni hunters and Vantages. When Buck establishes a line and makes the line recognizable even across different levels and price points, I think that's a good thing.

But what I don't understand is overlapping and competing lines, especially at the lower end of the price range.

What does the Diamondback Outfitter add that isn't covered by other lines like the Bucklite Max? If a gut hook knife is needed at that price range, why not just do it at a Bucklite Max?

And what's the deal with 3 inexpensive lock backs: the Bucklite (on the Web Specials page), Bucklite Max and Bantams?

Please note, I think Buck should be making inexpensive work knives in the $20 price range. My objection isn't about low cost stuff. But, I think the low cost stuff should be tied to or in support off higher end stuff. A bunch of low-end knives that look nothing like the core product families do nothing in my mind other than to dilute the Buck brand image.

I order 2 of the 118’s around 8:40am (EST) and just got and e-mail that they could only send me 1. Look’s like they are over sold.

Me too KDUJ.

I ordered two but received email that I'll be getting one. I'm tickled and pleased to get the one D2 Personal.

#1 Those two didn't overlap. The last year for the Diamondback in the catalog was 2008, the Bucklite Max was introduced the following year, probably as it's USA made replacement.

#2 Not sure what your question is. Although two of those overlap (Bantam and Bucklite Max), they are two unique patterns (unlike the Diamondback and it's replacement) and seem to appeal to different people. Different blade/handle shapes and even a different lock release location on the Bantam. They don't and never did, overlap with the regular Bucklites that are being sold on the specials page, since they were "discontinued" long before either of the other two were introduced.

 1 is better than none, I want to use mine at deer camp, it should be a great knife for butchering.

Haebbie you were correct. Remind me not to bet against you. Uh uh. No. With you and not against you. SS was a misprint.

I just ordered two of them after I found out (Thanks Steve!!!) that they were the real thing and not stainless.

Entirely my pleasure CA Dave. Thank you kindly for your terrific content contribution to this forum. You are all right. May you live a thousand years

You're too kind Steve. Thanks but I'm not so sure I WANT to live that long. I'm finding that, like has been said, "Gettin' old ain't for sissies". :o

Dave,

Thank you so for the clarification. I find that hopeful on both counts and wasn't aware those old knives had been discontinued.

Thanks!
