New web specials

Yeah, sometimes all you have to do is blink and they're gone.Sometimes I wonder if resellers grab them up in large quantities.:(

I just received an e-mail from Liz at Buck telling me that they (the 118's) were gone by 10AM Pacific yesterday. Haebbie says they told him there were only 20 available, so it wouldn't have taken long for them to go once the word was out.

Due to limited quantities, only one per order was allowed.

Actually, that's incorrect Tony. Here's a bit of the e-mail I got from Liz regarding my 118 orders. I usually order a few of the really good deals so that I can pass them on to my Buck Buddies (at the same cost) that missed out on them for one reason or another. Two of the four that I have coming are already destined for just that very thing.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the 118's make it to eBay and how they're priced if they do.

"Hi David,

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we have had 2 issues with our website on the web specials page this go around in that it did not show the “limited to stock available” disclaimer and it did not auto delete from the website when the last one was sold.

As a result of this your order for 3 pcs that you placed the first time went thru but the second order that you placed for an additional 3 pcs did not. We did find that at the time you placed the order we had only 1 left so that’s all we can send. You will get a total of 4 pcs.

Again, please call me if you have any question.

Thank you,

Liz"

Another e-mail from Liz just moments ago regarding the 118's:

"Hi David,

Thanks for your response. There were 22 of them made.

Thanks,

Liz"

You'd think on such a limited run they WOULD limit it to one to a customer so two or three guys wouldn't grab them all immediately.

As it appears happened here........

Far better to have 22 happy customers than just a couple (with the knives showing up on e-Bay in a few days at twice the price).

But......I suppose Buck doesn't care who gives them the money......just so they get it.

P.S. Not saying that any of our Buck Buddies here are greedy hoarders.......after all, who would have guessed there were only 22 to go around?

Well...either we both bought the last one, or .....

Can anyone say for sure that the 525 Gent Silver/Gold buildout has a mirror blade or not? It looks from Buck's pic that it is mirror polished with tang stamp date 1998. I noticed that the verbage/description has been corrected to reflect silver/gold materials and not stainless. I hear that this is a welcome gift for the ladies. Something for her. Jewelry-like but useful.

My two that I have right now both have mirror polished blades. They were listed as "New" in the '98 catalog.

Since these new ones have a Build Out (0525BO-B) number, it makes me wonder, I've learned from past experience that you can't always go by the date stamp on the picture. Could be that they used a stock photo of the original instead of taking a new one of the Build Out.

I would be interested in special 110s /112s (maybe chairman or sv30) or nice cocobola 119s, woodsmans, or pathfinders -maybe stockmans. Nothing up there interests me much.

Well, you just missed out on them at the time because there have been many similar to your wish list that have been offered on the Web Specials page in the past.

Limiting orders to one-per-customer would probably drive their shipping costs through the roof and surely result in higher prices. I like the early bird gets the worm system.

I ordered 3 well after the time you mention and got notice that I would only get one. I'm happy to get it and think they started backing orders down at some point just to spread the wealth.

Can't wait to get it!

Dave, Dave Dave. Your photos, Dave on the shutter button, make those silver and gold Gent folders look like rich brilliant loot. Thank you.

Your photographs of dirt would put mud pies on the menu!!!

118s are really cool knives. As much as I like them I'm probably more interested in the Paul Bos D2. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I suspect what happened is somebody came across 22 of those blades lying around.

That's how these things usually happen.

I doubt that they are actually MAKING any D2 blades at this point. We have to wait for a clean-up crew to dump out an old box and find some.

Happy accident.

Build Out Gent 525 came, the one I ordered, with un-polished blade. It is a sharp and true blade but not mirrored. The scales, ooooohhhhhhh the pretty scales, are too cool for school. I gotta give this jewelry to a woman ASAP before I mess up its stunning beauty. I went over it with my loupe and man-o-man was it done right. Pics in a bit.

Dang, I missed the bus again. A D2 118 would be awesome. Those 20 flew of the shelf so fast that it makes me wonder why they don't just add a "workin' man's" 118 to the catalog. :) I'd happily pay $80 - $100 or so for one. The limited editions are nice but all the buttons and whistles usually price me out.
