New web specials

You'd think on such a limited run they WOULD limit it to one to a customer so two or three guys wouldn't grab them all immediately.

As it appears happened here........

Far better to have 22 happy customers than just a couple (with the knives showing up on e-Bay in a few days at twice the price).

But......I suppose Buck doesn't care who gives them the money......just so they get it.

P.S. Not saying that any of our Buck Buddies here are greedy hoarders.......after all, who would have guessed there were only 22 to go around?

Thats called knife socialism, it does'nt work! LOL!!!

Be sure to check your credit cards....I was only able to buy one knife but was charged for 3.....too late in the day to talk to anyone.

It wouldn't surprise me if they have just flat run out of the D2 blades due to the large number of Build Outs that they've used them for. There's been five different 118 Build Outs and of those five, four have had the D2 blades. Going by the Build Out list and the info given for the newest one, that's a total of 572 or 574 depending on which number for the new one is correct. Seems like quite a few to me.

I'm also surprised that one of the local auction sellers in Post Falls didn't get prior info, swoop in and buy them all this time. A $900 to $1000 investment isn't alot and would have easily been doubled or even more.

I suppose that I'll have to wait until they get here to actually see how many I get. I've received two shipping notices/tracking numbers with different order/invoice numbers and both are for three. Liz said I was getting four, so who knows. If I get just the four, that means that I have one to keep for my collection, all the others are being passed on to other forum members.

LOL, really.

I have just to look into the mirror in order to find another one. And, I don't think that I am alone in this.

I'm sure I saw a post from Joe H. years......years ago......saying that they had used up all remaining D2 118 blades.

After that they turned up for at least two, probably three (maybe more) build-outs with the D2 blades.

So, I believe that if any turn up these days it's just because somebody happens upon some lost and forgotten ones in a drawer or box that hasn't been opened for years.

Somewhere, on this very forum, it was mentioned that R. Matheny and J. Houser got together recently in Post Falls and went thru the archives of prototypes and such to see which ones to vend and which to lock back up in the safe. I wonder if pieces, blades and such, were discussed and possibly pushed toward build outs by one or both of these fine gentlemen then. If this meeting/discussion/treasure hunt had been made into a movie I would watch it even if there was no popcorn. :)

Mr. Matheny discussed this meeting regarding special projects at the BCCI meeting at Blade. There was no mention of a tape. Maybe a secret one?

I found the topic and here's the applicable statement by Joe. I read into it that they made at least 1000 of the blades. Doing a bit of math, it appears that so far, about 674 of those blades have been used up.

"You didnt ask about this one but I happen to know it off the top of my head so in the hopes of making myself appear smart...most of the 118 build outs with D2 steel are made of blades left over from the Family Favorites set we did back in 2002. Originally we were going to do 1000 of the sets which included one 118 in D2. Maybe it was the $3000 sugested retail price but we only actually sold less than 100 of the sets. We have been using up the left over blades and I think we may finally be out.
Hope this helps. Joe Houser

Additional edit: I'd forgotten about the LE with a Buffalo (I think) inlet into the handle and a partial chipped flint BG-42 blade that came out a few years back. That would have used up some blades also.

Finally, a memory expert! OFF topic: What are these and while you are at it why do the deer only eat the vines not the fruit and why do I only eat the fruit and not the vines? They are prolific. The fruit is everywhere, delicious and they just keep appearing, like the rain here soon will.
