No such thing as being too late to this party! You're going to have to suffer with the rest of us now.

Cant wait to see the prototype at blade.

Its pretty close the the XM-18.
Very true. However, I believe the XM-18 is a stud opener with the flipper thrown in as extra. With this knife, I'm hoping it would be a dedicated flipper(strong detent, KVT), with the studs acting primarily as blade stops:thumbup:.

I really like the flipper on the XM-18. This will be a high seller and will be nice for everyone who cant get the XM-18.

It's nice, but I can tell it was primarily meant to be opened with the thumb studs. There is almost no detent action on mine, which means that opening with the flipper requires a certain technique. Though since the blade can be flicked out easily(making tip up carry a risky prospect), I find myself wondering why I'm bothering with the flipper. Pivot tightness is also at the "sweet spot" where any tighter and the blade won't flip open.

For a flipper, I much prefer something like my Galyean Pro Series Turbulence where the detent action is very strong and the blade flies open with a simple press on the protrusion, requiring no technique whatsoever:thumbup:.

I guess I will put this out there since the Galyean Pro Series Turbulence was mentioned. Do you think they would consider an IKBS pivot to give this knife the best flipper action available?

Thomas didn't say no to a kind of bearing system they already have developed that I'm not familiar with. Anything to make it sizzle well be icing on the cake. :)

Last time I asked Thomas, he said that they were still tweaking the KVT system and they wanted to nail it just right before they release anything using the technology. I believe that the TILT is supposed to be the first using it so depending on how it goes over then maybe we'll find out if they'll be using KVT on this ZT/Hinderer model.

In my experience there is nothing smoother than a well done bearing pivot. Whether it be loose ball bearings, sealed ball bearings, or roller thrust bearings, they make the knife super smooth upon open and closure while keeping the pivot tight and the blade free of play.

Sooo.... I guess Thomas and Rick gave up the internet for lent or something?

Updates! We need updates!

Thomas, you and Rick gonna do a TAD version? I found the two I sent you a pm about. They came yesterday! I'll make a post soon. ;)

I would definitely hesitate to call the XM-18 a flipper. it's more of a knife with a finger guard that can be used to flip the blade, with wrist movement. it's in no way comparable to a decent IKBS flipper like the Galyean Pro-Series. I'm an XM-18 fan, but it's not really a flipper. I've owned quite a few of them, and none had the detent for flipping (and I prefer it this way, I think it's a great knife).

Looks like we have a winner for the Blade "Overall Knife of the Year"

That's my prediction, anyway.

I was going to try and wait for this knife to be my first titanium folder... I cracked today and ordered a 0551..the anticipation is killing me :D

That's exactly what happened to me. Kind of like this:
"I'll wait until the large flipper comes out and get an 0200 to tide me over until then..."
"These pics of the 0551 look amazing... but I have to wait for the flipper..."
"Hey, they're listing it for $200 shipped, and they sell for more than that on BF or ebay. Can't go wrong if I get one, right?"
"OK, I'll get an 0551 and probably sell it off later..."
"This 0551 is not leaving my hands"
