New ZT/Hinderer Flipper is Coming!!!0560/0561

Beautiful!! I think it was worth the wait...... The flipper blade looks the same size as the 0551. Is there a way for you to confirm the blade length is 3.5 inch? Or is it a bit longer?

Next to the 0561, the 0550 looks like it got its little wiener cut off (no flipper).

Best collaboration to date! Great job guys, really looking forward to getting the black flipper. Well, maybe two...

Just heard about this, and am extremely excited. I've had 4 XM-18s and can never hang on to them b/c I carry my knives and the though of losing one makes me sick. I really liked the ZT055x design, but somehow it just didn't do it for my, but I will be grabbing this one for sure, even if it means getting rid of some Spydies...

I also always though the XM-18 was a little short for how beefy it was and 4" is a bit big, PERFECT size. This knife is going to be simply amazing. Only thing that would make it better would be having a lock like the 777. This may have put me over the top for making the drive down to Blade.

I think we need a video of the knife flipping open, hardcore knife porn.

Bring it on - no teasing! Only the hardest knife porn plz! :D

Just comparing the advertisement specs to the ZT series knives. This will be smidge longer (.3" OAL) and quite a bit lighter than say the ZT 0301 (couple of ounces). 1/4" shorter closed and the same blade length. (From ztknives.us) Hmm?

Well we know that Thomas has the skills to make just about anything flip without any wrist. How about one of the Kai ladies demonstrating it (or at least someone with smaller hands) to show how well the KVT flips?

If you look closely at the picture, the major increase in over all length compared to the 055X seems to mostly be from the longer handle. I wish the blade length difference was larger. Here's me hoping for a full 4'' blade.

But when you think about it, it's hard to justify the effort of releasing a dramatically new knife so the blade length can go from 3.5 to 3.75''. That makes little sense. If that's the case, I find that it's a strange decision. Take a look at these proven and classic examples; paramilitary 2 vs military (3.5'' vs 4''), SNG vs SMF (3.5 vs 4''), XM18 vs XM24 (3.5 vs 4'') or Benchmade Skirmish 635 vs 630 (3.5 vs 4'')...etc. Those make sense and make for some clearly noticeable and tangible differences overall. Going from 3.5 to 3.75, really??? The pre-existing ZT0301 already has that same exact 3 3/4inch blade length and even has a long list of other shared features with the 056X. The 0301 is a great knife, but it leaves something to be desired when compared to other 'full size knives'' in it's category IMO. 0301/055X type knives, (possibly 0560 if specs confirm), are really mid-sized ''hard-use'' knives in my book.

I know we are only at the picture stages, but I'm starting to worry that the 056X won't be enough knife to differentiate itself from the already pre-existing midsized, 055X/030X crowd. From the other knives I've mentioned, if you take a look at side by side photographs, they don't looks this close in size to one another.

I'm not bashing this great collaboration design, I might still end up buying it, I just wish the two models were even more dissimilar as ''big'' and "little" brothers should be..

There are many other features going for this knife that no other ZT knife has. I don't get why you would dismiss this folder due simply to blade length. This wasn't meant to be a "successor" to the 055X / 030X

Sorry, but if you look at the flyer for the 056x that Thomas posted in #1738, the specs for the 056x are 3.75" blade, 5.0" closed length, and 8.8" open length versus the 055x at 3.5", 4.5", and 8.125".

Hmmm...so then both knives have an overall length difference of .675''. The blade length differences alone makes up for .25'' of this overall length difference. So which part of my previous statement was wrong exactly?

Your saying the 055X has a 3.0'' blade length??? lolll I'll pretend I didn't see that.

I think I'm most excited about the KVT bearings!!! Can't wait to see this thing in action.

I wasn't implying that one should replace the other or be a successor as you suggest. I was suggesting the opposite. Doing so would be a marketing mistake. On the contrary one should compliment the other, ala my SNG/SMF example. But the path Kershaw seems to have taken points more towards one replacing the other. As things stand, given what we've seen so far, kershaw would of been best served offering just two version of the 0560, one with a flipper and one without, skip the 0550.

Life is far to short to worry over such trivial matters when considering such an awesome Knife.

VP -

Both of these knives are filling different slots in the lineup, but they're more like cousins than brothers. The 550/551 is based on Rick's "Camp Knife" design, has bronze washers, and has flat sided handles, and thumbstud opening with no flipper.

The new 560 is based on the XM-18, has 3D contoured handles, KVT bearing washers, a variation on the X-18 texture, and opens with a flipper or a thumbstud. The lengths may be similar, but it's not the main point of comparison. The 560 is not intended to be a replacement for the 550/551.
