New ZT0550 Thread !!!

#185 is in my hot little hands and I couldn't be happier.

This is my first really beefy knife and I rather like the weight and the way it feels in the hand. It's a bit bulky in my jeans pocket but I can't really feel it weight-wise and the pocket clip is perfect, slips in and out easily.

Sharp blade and early lock-up, I'm really pleased.
Thanks to everyone involved in bringing this knife out!

Well I went and really inspected my stainless liner and it has rust also. Mine will be taking a trip to the factory.

It's a shame other than the lock bar and the rust the rest of the knife is pretty perfect.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lockbar being at about 75%. The large CRK knives I've had usually fall in around there, especially the Umnumzaan. Where you see the lockbar right now is where it will sit for a long time to come.

My liner has rust. Taking it apart and hitting it lightly with some sandpaper should get the job done.

Not good, but not that big of a deal.

The rusty liner is one element that concerns me. Imagine if we never looked. Does disassembly void the ZT warranty?

mine has rust or discoloration identical to the pics on both sides of the liner.

lockup is 50%, and can be pushed over to about 60% rather easily.

the thumbstud hits the g10, which is slightly oversized in a few places. not sure i want to shape it and affect lockup.

its very sharp, but the grind appears assymetrical. ill put it on the edge pro to be sure.

i sanded the liner and all discoloration is gone. if it is rust, i expect it will come back.

oddly, the ti scale is .184" thick, and the other is .167" thick. i noticed the thumbstud sits flush with the g10 scale, and not the ti scale.

nothing here is a deal breaker, but i'm not "blown away" with it. i like the way it feels, and i'm sure it will get carry tiime.

btw, thanks for getting these out so fast dave!!

paid friday night, in hand today. much appreciated!!!

That's my problem with removing the rust myself. I'm sure it will come back. I would rather the liner be replaced. Probably should have used titanium.

true.

i tend to take all my folders apart (except spydercos) when i get them. normally to remove excess oil and relube with grease, so it wasn't a big deal for me to clean off the rust/discoloration.

i also don't care to send stuff back unless there is a serious fit issue. for me, this does not warrant replacement, as it will probably come back anyway.

although i would certainly like a ti liner.

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but couldn't you wipe the liners with a Tuf Cloth and be done with it:confused:?

just got mine..#129. no problems that i see yet. blade dead center, g-10 what i see perfect to. also inside the bubble wrap was a little pack of moisture adsorbent. so far so good..a little stiff to open, but i sure that will change. thanks to Dave,Thomas and Rick!

I didn't take mine apart as I think I'm going to have to sell it. My wife got sick & had to go into the hospital for a couple of weeks, but she's recovering nicely. :)

I guess on the outside I'm lucky, my G-10 is lined up evenly and the lock is engaged about 1/2 way.

I think you can stop future rust like I do. Apply light coat of Miltec-1 and heat the metal with a blow dryer really hot. Let cool. Re-heat 3x's per day for 3 days, but only apply the Miltec once per each day.

Every knife blade or action I've done this on will actually bead water up and seals it. I've never had rust and live on the shore of a Great Lake below sea level - we have humidity but no rust with Miltec-1.

Corrosion-X is hard core rust remover/sealant too. I trust it but it stinks (literally) so I use the Miltec-1 except for case of rust removal. It has never failed me. Hope it helps! :)

I made the mistake of taking apart a Stretch in VG10. Needless to say someone got a new Stretch in pieces for a fraction of what I paid for it ;)

I'd also like a Ti liner, not sure what the deal is with the lockbar, but it seems that most are this way.

Does Dave send out an email when he ships?

i got the email from paypal when the shipping label was printed.

thx, i may try that.

i don't like to have too much oil on any of my knives. i just don't like that stuff on my hands and i sometimes use them around food.

i only grease the pivot areas and maybe the detent. i have never been one to coat a blade to prevent corrosion.

but i may end up doing something like you mention if the rust (or whatever it is) returns.

My 0551 is overall a nice knife, but disappointing in several aspects. The blade is almost centered, there is some minor rust on the liners, the lock bar is 75 percent, which is too far for me. The cutout on the lockbar is ungodly thin. Beefy it ain't. And it's difficult to unlock because there is no relief.

The blade is sharp and the grind is even. The point is properly sharpened. The brick G10 is grippy.

I really want to like this knife, but I can't. It will be up for sale in a few minutes.

I think the lock up should be earlier mybe 20% . I hope on the 0550 They ajust this . It is a very nice knife can't wait to get one .
