New ZT0550 Thread !!!

My lockbar will move left to right-side to side with no tension after lock up. I think the lockbar is also trying to contact the blade flush as opposed to one point of contact. If that makes any sense.

Let's see some pics of the lock up.

Let's see some pics of the lock up.

Visually the lock up looks solid. It's the play in the lock bar after lock-up that is my concern. More of just a safety concern. It may just need to be bent a little further and i'm not too comfortable taking a new knife apart - may do more harm than good with lock-up. May just have to send her in for a remedy.

It definitely needs to go back then. I posted a similar issue with a knife of mine and either you bend the lockbar in (not recommended) or send it back. I definitely think there should be zero play in a lock bar, or any lock for that matter.

Mine should be in my mailbox right now :D:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks! I def. won't attempt it then.

Love the knife! Rock solid design!

Indeed - This rusty liner issue seems like it could be chronic but we need the stakeholders to weigh in.

I have two on preorder from another dealer besides Dave and I would consider cancelling those if I knew I had a good chance of receiving a similar knife.

If these issues are mitigated somehow then I'm still in.

Let's see what the official word on the matter is.

What do you think of these two pictures:

A little help for the pics.
:nevermind:

I was thinking they would finish them or something prior to assembling the knife.

#0014 was waiting for me when I got home.

Initial impressions...

Heavy, thick, tough as nails. My lockup is ~50% which is great to me. No blade play. Centered blade, good build quality. I will say I have owned an XM and find it to be more comfortible.. it's also incredibly obvious this is NOTHING like the XM once you hold it. That said, I absolutely love this knife... I think once I have my HEST folder to rotate out with this, I'll sell my other folders.... no need for them anymore...

I decided to purchase one of these 0551’s as my first Zero Tolerance knife because I’ve heard/read nothing but wonderful things regarding ZT’s fit/finish and overall quality but WTF is up with that RUST ?!!

..have you guys forgotten that “stainless” steel is NOT supposed to rust like that?
Why wasn’t it cleaned and finished properly?
What kind of alloy did they use if it is indeed stainless??? A simple 300 series SS should not rust like that and spare me about high carbon SS tool alloys oxidizing, we're talking about a liner here!

I can’t help thinking that liner looks like it belongs on a Pakistani/Chinese knock-off sold on Canal Street, not on a high end, $200 knife!

And, to top it off, several new owners are worried about the excess lock bar travel and lock-up issues on a brand new knife. Hmmm....

Anybody else get the feeling that they rushed these out the door and threw caution to the wind???
..maybe they had the “B” team trainees putting them together? There were comments made about working this sprint run in between the “regular production” and how busy Kershaw was during this time of year. Maybe they hired some seasonal temp workers and let them have a go at being a “knifemaker” by "practicing" on our much anticipated 0551's???

How else to explain these QC issues?

Perhaps I'm the odd one out... but my liner looks perfect, lockup is solid (50% isn't over travel.. CRKs come around 50% and look at how many people (dont) break those locks...) build quality is great... I cannot find a fault in the knife...

Upon further review I have also found an issue with my two... somebody forgot to include the 2nd scale. :D ;)

i agree with myowngod, really no problems, my lockup is about 60%... but i think i'm getting a little paranoid....
