My mistake!

Got the name wrong...it was Cheryl. :foot: Foot in Mouth,as usual.

KAI Warranty Services is 800-325-2891.

Took it to the post office to send back; by the time I got home,I had an email from Cheryl K. @ KAI, saying it'll be taken care of.

This should be an easy request to fill:

Please post a pic with the Leek and the 551 side by side.

Thanks!

I took mine apart this morning to check the rust issue, no rust. Mine appears to sent through the tumbling process?.

For all those that missed it, someone posted earlier that there has been a FACTORY RECALL on this first batch and the few distributors (Kershawguy & Blue Ridge) that received them should return them back to ZT/Kershaw.
This is not true. As you can see from this thread, many of the 150 knives that hit the streets have liners that are perfect, no need for them to be returned. As to the others, as I've said we will pay to pick up, fix, and ship the knife back at no cost. We will be re-inspecting the knives that have left the factory but have not hit the streets.

Sorry again to those who received knives with bad liners.

I love how the apologists/fanboys suggest that we should just clean them up ourselves and get on with it and just be happy/thankful(!) that we got a knife in the first place! You gotta love blind loyalty like that, but here's something to consider...

MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS/WAS FROM THE BEGINNING...

These liners are supposed to be STAINLESS STEEL and shouldn't be rusty like that in the first place! Even if you "clean them up" what f'ing assurance do you have that they won't be rusting again?! If there was this kind of OVERSIGHT to have "missed" putting the liners in a tumbler why can't it also be a valid concern that whoever pulled a sheet of steel to cut the liner blanks out of didn't get the wrong piece of metal??? ..what if they received the wrong spec alloy from their supplier and nobody caught it or did anything about it????

I would like Thomas to chime in on this and set the record straight.
I'm unsure about how I like responding to posts like this, but sure, I'll chime in, the liners are made from 410 stainless steel. Hope that helps.

What I would like is for Thomas to post a pic of the processed versus rusty liner. I will take mine apart and check to see if it is affected. 5 years from now, I will send it in if it starts to rust.

I don't feel like waiting on the mail again.

Thanx,Thomas!

The rapid response, when I called KAI,was "Sure!Send it back!" almost before I finished describing what I was seeing.

I'm proud to be first in line on Kershawguy's ZT/H 0550 pre-order list, and he has a standing request that I be placed on any forthcoming ZT pre-order list.

ZT/KAI's response has solidified my loyalty.

I find this all very pathetic that grown men on these forums can act so immaturely about an honest mistake. Comparing the rust problems with automobile recalls are absolutely ridiculous because those were done because of safety precautions not some cosmetic rusting issue. Nothing changes the brilliant design and workmanship done here and all at a very reasonable cost. I'm no materials expert but even I can see that KAI stands to make little if any profit from this project. This was done purely for you psychopathic maniacs so enjoy it. Even the best and brightest companies make mistakes and Kershaw has said they would make things right if you got one with a faulty liner so that should end all this discussion and everyone should instead be talking about how the knife performs while I wait eagerly to get mine.

KERSHAW HAS RECALLED ALL 0551s MADE TO DATE. THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO SEND YOURS IN.
To reiterate, no, we haven't asked for all of the 150 pieces of the 0551's to be returned to the factory. If you feel the liner has corrosion and needs attention, please call us, and we will make arrangements to dial the piece in. If there is concern there may be an issue that may show itself down the road, please call us for a pick up.

If your liner is without corrosion there is no reason to have your knife picked up.

Jroden you are a bad ass. Thank you for all the pics. This knife is sweet. To those of you that got ones with some rust you should just be happy that you got it from a company that is so quick to fix it. While I know you are sad to have to send the knife back in, at least you got one and know with upmost confidence, any problems will be taken care of. With that said, we need more pics. I am sure plenty more of you have cameras and other knives you can compare it to, or show it being used. Lets see those pictures.

Once again thank you to Jroden, he is helping me fill the void while I wait for the next batch to be made.

Thank you for your comments, but respectfully, it is contrary to what Kershaw told me: that it is recalling its entire first run because it has no way to know which knives didn't receive the finishing process. This means EVERY ZT 0551 sold to date.

Jennifer at CS is the source of this information in a conversation with me today in which I took detailed notes. See my earlier post for details.

If anyone has any doubts or questions, please call Kershaw and find out for yourself.

The source of this confusion may be Kershaw itself. I asked them to put out a statement explaining what happened and what consumers should do. They told me they had no plans to do so.

That is why I posted Kershaw's explanation above, unfortunately subjecting myself to attack by some who saw it as criticism of the company. Clearly, my intent was just the opposite.

I do what I can:D:D, you won't be sorry when you get yours, this baby feels better in hand than it looks, and that's saying something , cause this knife is beautiful! I did a little fine point work with her to free my new mountain bike from all it's packing when I got home from work, like a scalpel I say, the tip control us out of this world!
