New ZT0550 Thread !!!

Kershaw turn around is about 2 weeks.

Just got my 551 back today after having similar problems to those above. The lock appears to be perfectly fitted and locks up very nice, very smooth opening too.

I just got mine back today and the lockup is much improved and I too noticed it easier to open. Unfortunately they did not return the original box that the knife was shipped to them in.

Much improved or fixed? Mine is there now for the same issues. How long was it out of service?

Let me clarify, the lockup is now at 50%. It "clanks" open nicely when opened slowly and there is zero bladeplay. The lockbar is less sticky when unlocking now, I think due to the less severe angle of the lockbar. When I first got the knife lockup was probably over 75%.

On a side note, I cannot for the life of me figure out why they did not put a flipper on these. With a flipper and a little customization this could have been my grail. :(

i put off sending it back during the holidays for fear of having it stolen...i should send it in tomorrow.

ive had the return shipping label printed since the day they said we could call about having it returned, anyone know if i need to ask for anew one or can i just slap it on a box and send it in?

I haven't popped into this thread in awhile, but figured I'd offer up an update on mine.

Mine had the sticky lock problem at first, but with use it's gotten fairly easy to disengage now. It's never been the easiest opening knife I've ever used, but after cleaning and applying a little oil, it's more than fairly smooth. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get the pivot screw tightness worked out to a good balance between too much detent and too much bladeplay.

I'd send it to Kershaw/ZT for a little tune-up, but I can't bring myself to send it in for warranty work when it's a problem I caused. I'll probably end up getting a better lube (I've been using RemOil Moistureguard Grease, and I don't think it's working all that well).

Strange how, with all the hassles and irritations that have come up, this is STILL my favorite knife. I'm so glad I got in on the pre-orders for this thing and can hardly wait for the 0550.

Get a bottle of Remoil spray. Shake it really well to get the teflon mixed in before spraying. Then spray the entire knife down I mean soak everything. Open and close about 20 times after you spray. Put in a ziplock bag for 24 hours. Take out and wipe down. This will nor hurt the G10. You guys should see a lot better movement after this.

I'm with you, I sure wish it had a flipper. :(

I'm with you guys. A flipper would have been a nice bonus.

Hallelujah! More Disciples of the Flipper!

This makes my MONTH!

Let me guess...I'll bet at least 2 out of you three have old motorcycle injuries that affect your hands...specifically your thumbs...that cause us to love Flippers!

Shhhhhh. I don't like to bring up my past. Lol!!!! I sold my Triumph this past Oct. I'm getting the bug again.

No injuries here, I just prefer the flipper. My ZT0350 is hard to open with the thumb stud, but it is getting a little easier the more I open and close it.

I view flippers as a win/win. Closed, the flipper makes for a quick and easy blade deployment. Open, the flipper becomes an enhancement to the handle's finger indention (if well designed like the ZT0350).

First chopper I ever threw a leg across was a Triumph Bonneville,IIRC.
That was in early '68.

I've done everything short of begging for a ZT/Hinderer flipper, for those of us that have absolute FITS with a thumbstud.

And as the old song says: "Ain't too proud to beg!" considering how much I love the 0551.

Maybe if enough of us plead with Thomas W. & Rick Hinderer....

I had a Bonneville Thruxton. Fun bike. I like flippers but can live without. I'm trying to justify buying a XM-18 3.5. They just keep going up in price. I would want the CTS-XHP steel on mine.

I have 3 kershaws and a zt flipper i'm on lists for the 50 and 51, initally I didnt even realize when I went on the lists it wasnt a flipper. It just made perfect sense for such a beautiful knife like it to be a flipper or at least one of the two to be flipper. I almost took my name of the lists after drooling over the pics one day and realizng they that neither one had the option. I realized that would be a mistake because it is still a great knife. Kershaw was my indoc to flippers and I am now an addicted to em. I like them better then my autos or any assisted non flipper I have owned, But I so have an idea for kershaws next model an 0551/50 F MOD. Hopefully kershaw/ZT is listening and I'll get a free one too for my model idea. haha ha I have spent so much on kershaws and zt/'s latley it is not even funny. I introduced my dad to them and he has several now with more on the way too. I even plan on giving a few flip's to buddies because their to cheap to buy a decent knife and since I got hurt and perm injured, I don't have their back anymore. Lets hear it for the F MOD !!!!!!! WE WANT THE F MOD!!!!!!!!!

Buy a ZT 0301, 0350 or a non-assisted Hinderer XM-18. :)
