i hope whats pictured is a left hand version...i think that a grip like that for a right handed person has the potential to disengage the lock during rough use...

just seems that the traditional locking side should be on the inside.

now that ive voiced that concern i cant wait until these are out on the market. ill take orange!

Looks like a standard frame lock to me? Which are made for right handed people.

Vanax 35
Carbon: .20%
Chromium: 20.00%
Manganese: .30%
Molybdenum: 2.50%
Nitrogen: 1.90%
Silicon: .30%
Vanadium: 2.80%

Manufacturer - Bohler Uddeholm
Stainless/Nitrogen Steel
Powder Metallurgy - Third Generation

I'd be very interested in some commentary about this steel. Lots of Chrome and Moly and Vanadium. It should hold an edge and be very stain resistant. Can someone compare it to some of the common use premium steels like S30V?? Thanks

Handled one & I liked it a lot. No AO or Recurves, just a beefy frame-lock. The screwdriver pommel gadget can jab you in certain grips though. Figure if I get one I might get that ground off or a new backspacer made.

One thing for sure is it is a lot better looking than the volt or the tilt.

I definitely agree when it comes to the volt; that's a seriously bland blade, imho. The tilt, on the other hand, is a pretty intriguing design...it's hard to say which I like better.

The Volt is bland? What do you think of a Sebenza? Because a Volt is pretty radical with it's etched composite blade and G10 inlays in the titanium. It's pretty unique and far from bland IMO.

Well, depending on how long my "special order" at work takes to come in, I might have just found either my first or second ZT. A beauty of a knife. This is why I'd love to see Rick Hinderer do more production collaborations (and why, if I ever break down and buy a custom, it would likely be an XM-18).

There are some serious questions that need to be asked but for $250 MSRP it looks pretty solid my questions would be....

1. Blade length (Please 3.5-3.9)
2. OAL length (no more than 5 inch handle, so under 9 inches)
3. Weight (please god not almost 9oz like most ZT's are)
4. Quality of the steel (sounds good but who knows till you try it)

Ideally If this is a 3.5-3.9 inch blade weighing in at like 5.5 oz's I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

Like I said, it's my opinion. You don't have to agree.

I like the looks of the Sebenza - a damn handsome blade. Especially with Lignum Vitae inlays, or with one of the custom anodizing jobs people have done. Why do you ask?

Thomas W. stated that the Vanax35 on these ZT 550's tested out to 60-61 RC. I'd drop a link to show but will not out of respect. If you want to find it bad enough its not too hard.

Edit: He also said that these blades played hell on their grinders, which seems to be a good sign.

I seen a post a while back ( I can't remember who or what thread) of
someone who had a custom fixed blade with Vanax 35. He said it
retains it's edge similar to S30V, is a little easier to sharpen and a
little more corrosion resistant.

One things for sure, we'll know when it hits the streets.
Thanks for the info!

.

Do we know how much this beauty weighs? Hopefully this ZT hasn't been cutting the carbs... :p

That is one sweet knife. Alright, I got 0500, so getting 0550 is only logical continuation, right? :D
