Glad to hear the tornado didn't hit your farm. That sounds really fun flying to DC with the WWII heros. That honor flight sounds like a great program.:thumbup:

Not to throw in a monkey wrench, but why was Elmax the chosen steel rather than the more wear/corrosion resistant M390, also from Bohler?

I recall Thomas saying in this thread that the Elmax was already in inventory. The 551 is an accomidation by Thomas to all the knifenuts going crazy when they saw the Proto from the knifeshow.

The 550's release was delayed for a couple months for some reason related to the Vanex steel so Thomas decided on the Elmax sprint run.

So maybe the design committee does M390 at some point but I happy with the Elmax especially since it's allowing us to get the knife some 6 months earlier than the 550.

One other point, I have the ZT350 with the composite Elmax blade and the steel is a first class premium steel. I have no doubt everyone will be delighted with it in this pattern.

I have no doubt in my mind that Elmax is going to be some super tuff steel. If ZT makes it, its going to be tough and badass too!!!
