New ZT's for 2017 what do you love?

Let's compare ZT 0920 with Giant Mouse GMP2. Both are high-quality, milled titanium frames, bearings flippers with similar premium steel blades and titanium clip.

0920 has a 3.9" blade weighing 5.4 ounces, titanium frame lock and sells for $240.00 shipped.

GMP2 has a 3.3" blade weighing 6.6 ounces, titanium liner lock and sells for $381.00 shipped.

By the way, y'all must watch some primitive television if those knives represent "sci-fi" to you. That GTC collab, yes, but the other four are pretty tame if you took a second to actually look at them. I refuse to believe that anyone here is actually having his mind blown by some patterned titanium and CF frame lock flippers.

I've had to stop reading.... it seems pretty apparent many new memebers are not even of legal age to buy a knife (yup under 18). I see members from when I used to be a regular make reasonable unbiased points or simply say i like this one but not this one... then I see extremely biased immature people attack anything they say or make broad generalized statements and present them as fact. Knives come in all shapes and sizes, everyone's tastes are different and that is fine. I can tell you I carry nothing but ZTs and have for the last 5 years working on a farm. My knives see harder use than the majority of owners will ever subject their knives to and I have never had a ZT fail to hold up to it. These forums have gone drastically down hill, even the for sale area is full of threads made by non paying memebers... where have all the mods gone?
Im 16 😀

They seem to be emulating the aesthetics, materials, and features of all of these high end Chinese flipper companies, which I find very unappealing.

The lone unique offering is the 850, which is way over-stylized, for me.

Yup, the GMP2 is seriously just hype pricing. The 0920 has even more materials being a larger size, made in USA(not important to me, but it is for some) and IMO has better warranty. It really offers much more value.

I scrolled through this 14 page thread (it took less than 10 minutes), expecting yet another ZT hate fest. Thanks to the ignore feature, along with mastering the zonal ability to ignore trolling quotes that I already ignore, I came away this morning, thinking: what an awesome thread! Below, are the high points that I took away from this thread: v

With the ZT 0920 you're getting a Les George Harpy with milled titanium, CPM-20CV steel blade and titanium clip for $240! Even with a 3.9" blade it still weighs just 5.4 ounces. Compare that to the similarly sized 0909 at 7.5 ounces! See page 7 of the 2017 ZT Catalog: https://zt.kaiusaltd.com/pdfs/catalogs/ZT_2017.pdf

^ As usual RamZar- excellent bullet point summaries! Out of these 5 soon to be released ZT's, I think the Les George, is the model that I find most appealing.

Why would a company, any company, sit back and let the rest of the industry run past them?

People are complaining about "art knives" and "pocket jewelery", but have they actually used the expensive toys that they bought?

^ To answer your question, wobbly: I would venture to guess that 95% have not!

Personally I like the new models, I'll be getting the 055, 460, and 920 for sure. The others aren't quite my style, but I can appreciate the appeal for others. I'd share my actual thoughts, but I dont think thats what people here are looking for...Unfortunately as far as this forum goes ZT just cant win it seems.....they push out new designs and people just whine that its not to THEIR liking. I understand the comparisons to the volume of output Spyderco has, but they aren't really that comparable to me. The majority of their production is done overseas, they don't have to do their own CNC programming, machining, finish work, etc. ZT's are made in America, by Americans....funny how people constantly take that for granted. Not to mention the volume that ZT produces and sells far eclipses Spyderco's output. What exactly do you people expect?

I get that forums are about sharing opinions, but it seems like on this forum lately its just about bashing what you don't like, with no actual constructive criticism and a complete loss of perspective as to our place in the larger marketplace. Im sure that ZT's going to be just fine without the support of a few whiners over here, and I'll gladly carry the "unusable art knives" in this years lineup. Im sure my thoughts will be chalked up to the usual fanboy banter, and I'll get slandered in W&C by the usual suspects...

^ Truth! You know, Rival.....that certain sub-forum you brought up. ^ :D Please take the time to watch this Youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hopNAI8Pefg

Please watch the part 0:55 > 1:33

This scene, pretty much sums up 2 opposing sides in this rather dysfunctional :bi_polo: GKD sub-forum.

The way I look at it: "EITHER WAY, I DON"T GIVE A DAMN WHAT THIS CERTAIN SUB-FORUM OF NON-KNIFE USING TROLLS FEEL THEY'RE ENTITLED TO!!! :D

Just keep ignoring them, brah!

Wow, so much hate and so much incorrect information.

Just buy what you like...don't buy what you don't like.

^ Maybe if I had read some of the same pointless/gibberish comments that you read... I'd most likely be feeling the same way, Stabman! Get some sleep, bro! :)

I'm pretty stoked for the new les george model.

^ Pretty much how I feel.

ZT still makes hard use knives and even none arty stuff. Case in point, the 0909....In fact looking at their lineup, they have many. So they introduce art knives...why does that piss people off?

^ You know Screwdriver, some people unfortunately are pissed off at the entire World. They're so miserable living in their miserable environments, that they're chronically pissed off people. < Just an educated guess. It's just the way life is for some people!

You need to get out of LA, make the drive down here to San Diego...so we can grab a nice cold Ballast Point/Stone & and have a nice, positive conversation. And don't forget to bring some of your ZT knives! :)

Don't think that just because there is a handful of haters here, that you are in the minority. The reception elsewhere has been phenomenal.

ZT knows what sells and clearly huge heavy way overbuilt super thick knives don't see no matter how much the haters don't want to acknowledge it.[/B]

^

It is amusing to me that people continue to bloviate about the ZT offerings not being usable without having actually owned or used them.

I DO own these "art knives" and I DO use them and they are just as usable as and of the venerable old-school ZTs that they "built their market" upon.

Meanwhile, ZT is laughing all the way to the bank. :D

^ Key word: "amusing." Now there's some :positive: positive :positive: perspective for you!

2017 seems to be the year of people on Bladeforums hating the entire line-up of most manufacturers.

^ Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that these troll aren't going away anytime soon. It's just amazes me, the long leash some of these fools have been given to roam 24/7 around this forum, incessantly disrupting otherwise constructive discussions. :soap:

The backspacer, thumbstud and pivot of the ZT0850 reminds me of the lotus root.

^ Me too! It's been a long time, since I've had the enjoyment of eating some delicious lotus root! :)

Edit: Off topic and arguing for no good reason...:)

They have never been a point of real world weakness that I have ever seen.

^ I've suggested this to you before, Stabman: you need to hire an agent, and start auditioning for some acting roles (start with "B" rated movies first ;) ). You remind me in some ways, of another Canadian: a much younger Alex Trebek. "You're smart enough...you're good enough...and gosh darn it...people like you!" :adoration:

Please let me know if you'd like any recommendations, for a couple of the A list photographers. It does make a difference, who shoots your 8x10's! :D

^^ BTW: excellent video, great soundtrack! :listening_headphone

It's time to get to work...thankfully, I have a job! :)

Of all the above stuff you posted and as much complaining you do about trolls, you mention one of the new knives you like once... in all of that. You somehow outdo yourself time and time again.

I think I'll definitely be adding this to my mix- thanks, Stab!

Back on positive topic to some ZT knives...

The 0920 is the only must have for me. I would have loved the sub frame lock offering but the thumb stud and backspaces don't do it for me

What a great video to be able to watch during my much needed lunch break out of the rain! :) Thanks for posting this, RZ!

This video has completely changed my perception on a couple of these models; that I was otherwise on the fence about.

The GTC/ZT 0055, looks much nicer in this video, and the SLT Flipper System, looks to be an amazing change for the future of ZT knives!
I'm definitely looking forward to checking one of these out!

The original 0801 looks better. Those holes just ruin the design. I know they did a LE version with those holes, and it should have been the first and last knife to feature them. The 0801S110V plain handle would have been by far the better choice to replicate.

Not the best comparison. The Giant Mouse has an anodized Ti backspacer, pivot rings and clip. It also has a satin finish, versus the ZT's stonewash. All of these features are more expensive in materials/labor. Whether or not they are worth $141 to the buyer is another story.

Whats even funnier is he blindly defends someone who has been the most critical of the designs and dismisses others as trolling simply because he has them on ignore even though those people are more aligned with his ideas. Yes there is a troll in this thread now, he is just oblivious as to who that is. And im not talking about you knifebro. We disagreed but i dont think you are a troll.

But many stonewash blades start as a satin finish. And sometimes they are even bead blasted after grinding and then tossed inma tumbler. Both scenarios add steps to the process. And thus may actually be more costly to produce.

Fair enough. But a one piece backspacer still costs more than a set of standoffs, based on what I've seen in the knife aftermarket/mod world. The clip on the Giant Mouse also appears to be machined from a solid piece of Ti, versus the ZT's stamped clip.
