New ZT's for 2017 what do you love?

Fair enough. But a one piece backspacer still costs more than a set of standoffs, based on what I've seen in the knife aftermarket/mod world. The clip on the Giant Mouse also appears to be machined from a solid piece of Ti, versus the ZT's stamped clip.

True. It also costs extra to mill the internal of the titanium to reduce the weight on the ZT 0920. That's something GMP2 definitely should've done since it's too heavy at 6.6 ounces with a 3.3 blade.

Also, with GM2 and GMP2 Giant Mouse went with the less expensive to manufacture liner lock instead of titanium frame lock in the old GM1 and GMP1.

But do you think a clip and backspacer are worth $140 difference?

0920 is on my list.

I wish my 0909 had that pocket clip.

If you buy a machined custom clip/backspacer as an aftermarket mod to your ZT/any knife, it can easily cost that much or more.

There are people putting $100-200 steel flame clips on their Hinderers and Emersons (and in the case of the latter, some of those clips cost more than the original knife). Not that I would put any foolish bling like that on mine, my XM-18 and Emersns are still factory stock.

Now I will say that the ZT in this case still offers good value. However, the Giant Mouse gives buyers something that's much closer to offerings in the midtech/custom knife market. Very few manufacturers will go to that level of detail - the Giant Mouse is closer to something like the ZT 0888, ZT 0392 or 0777M390, as opposed to the ordinary production ZTs.

A bit off topic, but while the GM looks a nice knife, the name alone is a big turn off. I mean the mouse is one of the most disgusting animals to me, and a giant one is scary also.

Giant Mouse also only has 30 days warranty, someone just complained about that on instagram. This is also an important factor to consider when you put over $200 for a knife (or over $300 for giant mouse)

They've since removed the 30 day limitation on their warranty after Nick Shabazz lit them up on IG.

The 0055 is a GTC knock-off of the Airborne SLT and features the same flipper system (tab) the GTC has. I want to try it based on Gus's design but really don't want to fit the bill on a ZT, I guess it is better than spending 3K and 3 years waiting for a GTC (assuming Gus will make me a knife). I guess I will have to buy the ZT from one of you guys, try it out and sell it back to another BF member, I hope I make a buck when I do this:-)

ZT 0055 is a design collaboration between GTC and ZT with GTC getting paid for it. For $220 you too can get a production version of the GTC Airborne design.

But you are comparing after market parts from a company known for high prices to stock parts on a stock knife. Not really apples to apples IMHO.

Seriously?

Yes. Below from the GM website:

"GiantMouse values our customers above all else, and we stand behind our knives by guaranteeing against defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product."

However, GM won't accept returns based on buyer's remorse:

"Please note that the above warranty / return information pertains only to knives with defects in materials and/or workmanship. GiantMouse uses an outside fulfillment center for managing our inventory and processing orders. Accordingly, we are unable to accept returns of knives for any reasons other than defects in materials and/or workmanship."

Im fond of the 850 just dont know or have any exp with sub-frame locks and their durability long term.

Very durable. ZT first had it on the 0777 and later 0454. However, those were limited editions and not many made but no issues reported. When combined with carbon fiber scales it makes for a much lighter folder.

Other knife manufacturers (MicroTech and Brous) have blatantly and illegally copied the KAT/ZT patented subframe lock and no issues have been reported there either.

Yup i came across those copies on YT unfortunatelly, the Matrix still being made to this day as well as Anax i believe. Dont know about Brous

Honestly prices in the knife world are all over the place at all levels, production, midtech and custom. You won't be able to rationalize things at every level for buyers and makers.

I still think the Giant Mouse is fairly priced though. At retail, a Hinderer XM, CRK or Strider folder still costs more and doesn't have all those features, and I could probably name more. Again, the GM isn't meant to compete with non-LE factory ZT's.

This is probably going to be the first year where I end up buying each new release, however I'm still a little iffy on the 0920
