Newt Livesay internet ordering

I wrote him a well thought out e-mail a while back (which took about an hour to write to get the details exactly right), asking for responses to about 5 separate questions involving my transactions with him. The requests were explicit and to the point. After about two months, he wrote;

"I don't know what you are talking about". (that was all he said)

Thanks Newt!!......your decision to terminate your business is a good one.

I have met Newt a time or two...just casual conversation at a gunshow while browsing the knives. Even bought a couple, nice stuff. Anyways, he has also been present at a show or two when the problems started popping up, the problems go back a ways. Those were times when he was 'behind' and people were waiting way past delivery dates...of course at the shows he had plenty of stuff to sell. He seemed to be pretty close with Jerry Van Cook who also did a write-up about Newts knives in TK with the obligatory comments about what a good and honorable fellow Newts was.

Guess Newt is a decent knifemaker and personable enough to talk to, seems his true ethics leave something to be desired. Probably best that he moves onto something else and no longer takes peoples money for work never performed.

Well its now 5 months since I ordered and paid for my two knives.

Of course they have not turned up yet

Newts website is gone.

His EZ board site is no longer used by him as far as I can tell.

I have been in email contact with his daughter Joda. She is nothing to do with his business yet has tried to be helpful. She at least was polite enough to reply to my emails.

I get the impression Newt no longer even has a phone.

Recently I havn't heard back from Joda either.

I am rather despairing of ever seeing my order despite Newts reassurances in the letter he posted on the EZ board.

How terrible to take peoples money if you are not going to give them the goods.

Has anyone actually recieved anything from Newt (or via his daughter Joda) in the last two months ???

Of course!!!! The cash goes right in his pocket unreported to anyone but Newt and provides instant gratification.

But by the time he arrives home and it's time to pay Joe all kinds of bad things
happen.

I have had a ton of bad things happen in my life and I owe no one!! I am far from special either.........................................

It's hard to imagine that after SO MANY yrs. of this conduct people are STILL sending Newt orders ($$$), when will it all end  Hopefully soon.

Loandr.

I read a post from another forumite once where he described meeting Newt at a show. He wanted to order a knife, so he gave Newt the money and it went right in his pocket and, lo and behold, no knife ever materialized.

This is no different than lifting somebody's wallet or swiping tip money off a restaurant table.

I wanted a Bow Huntin' Buddy pretty bad but after reading that, I decided I could live without one. I mean, I realized that whether I ordered and payed for a Bow Huntin' Buddy or not, my experience would be exactly the same: the feeling of not having a Bow Huntin' Buddy. :D

"After having paid the price of the commodity, customer started doing contact. However, it cannot have been done."
It is called "Swindle" at the people. am I a victim of a swindle?

Ever since the Livesay website closed down and Newt posted his final "promise" to fill all payed for backorders on his E-board, his daughter Joda has been patiently attempting to help many people get their orders filled.

It seems that even she has now given up trying to deal with Newt.

Here is a copy of the mass email Joda sent out to the many customers who she has been attempting to help over the last few months.

"Guys - I am emailing you all at one time to let you know that I am giving up on getting these orders completed. My husband and I are tired of trying to get things to happen and it's just not. I have been trying to get knives from my dad for over 2 weeks. Either I drive over and he's not there or I call and he says there done and they are not. We live over an hour away and cannot afford to keep driving back and forth. I know for a fact that Chad 30 of the small knives are done - it's the big knives and the sheaths that are needing to be completed. There are knives there that can be shipped - I am just as frustrated as you guys are. Makes me almost lose my faith.

I'm tired and feel like I'm letting everyone down - but I'm at my wits end. My dad's mailing address is 3306 S. Dogwood Street in Fayetteville, Ar 72761. I'm sorry but we can't seem to make this happen.

If I can ever get a knife from him I will get them shipped but for me to keep saying to you I'm seeing the light - I just don't know.

You have my email and if I can ever get something accomplished I'll let you know - but for now I'm just tired.

Blessings,
Joda "

Obviously this doesnt look good for the customers with the paid for back orders!

I would like to give my thanks and appreciation to Joda however who has at least replied to every email that I have sent and seems to have genuinely attempted to help out with a difficult situation.

Still no knives though! :(

Call the Fayetteville, AR PD and inquire about obtaining a warrant for "Theft by Deception". Those that are close enough to drive might get a shot at getting that taken care of.

:)

Good News!

Today I recieved my knives !!!!! :D

Its taken seven months from the time I ordered. I was never expecting to see them and lo and behold they turn up in the mail this morning!

So it looks like Newt is genuinely working away at those back orders after all.

Really nice knives. I like the kydex too, a really cool new pattern on the woo kydex which is more than I expected.

Thus concludes my personal saga with Livesay knives.

I really hope all you other good people out there get your orders filled too.

Good Luck

first post and long time lurker here...

I've paid for two bow hunting buddy in D2 going on three years ago.

been following Newt on his forum for sometime. most folks do end up getting their knives.

did catch him at a gun show and purchased a load of knives off of him. not knowing he would be shutting down soon. have not received BHB paid for long ago.

purchased an early Jimmy Lile knife given to Newt by Jimmy as they are both Arkasas knife makers.

I've always maintained part of his problem is he sold his knives at below his real cost.

inspite of all the negative comments about how he's recently done business. seldem do you see a negative about quality of Newt's blades.

well that quality cost $$ to make and Newt always charged a fraction of what his blades were actually worth. IMHO under real cost to make after you factor in cost of doing business. not just for materials.

note face of man in handle.. absolutely wonderful blade. Newt's larger custom blades are equal in every way.

I'm glad you got your knives, Kiri. It's good that you've only had to wait 7 months. I'm still waiting for a moose handled Sandbar Bowie that was ordered in Aug., 2001. It is good to hear that Newt is getting orders out now.
