Newt Livesay ?

should it be destroyed to keep from propagatin' a myth
Cooties! Cooties! Destroy it by fire or you'll get cooties!

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see how mere ownership of a knife could give you cooties, or how the mere existence of a knife could propagate any myths. I can't see any problem with buying a knife on the aftermarket, either. Maybe I could see better if I put my foil helmet on....

Never understood the fascination with Livesay knives anyway. Even before all the ripoffs, I wouldn't buy one, as I found the knives were horribly crude and had really uneven grinding. Best thing you could say was they were cheaply priced and that he had some decently cool designs.

Now, after all the people who have been ripped off, I'd rather be kicked in the head with an old spiked golf shoe, than buy one of his knives. Anybody who deals with this clown now(after all that's gone on) deserves what they get(or, don't get), IMO.

They do, but you can bet they will be on here whining about it anyway...

What does this mean for people who have Livesay knives?

Can't sell 'em, nobody will pay a fair price for 'em, if ya got one should you consider yourself lucky or are you a sc*mb*g for ownin' one.

Is it a good knife with a bad maker or should it be destroyed to keep from propagatin' a myth that leads you to believe you own a piece of history and a quality knife?

I do own one and it is used as a LD SD and is EDC'd. :) (too many acronyms?)

i have had 3 and still have a woo which is imho one of the best "neckers" around, & all of the knives i've had from him have been pretty good, certainly were worth the $$ i spent on 'em, if i wore a neck knife (i dont) i would go with the woo, and would feel fine in doing so, i would wager 99.99% of my buds would hardly klnow newt livesay from knute rockne lol.

however, should i need refinishing/repairs/etc i would go with someone other than newt, and probably (barring a great deal) wouldnt go with any others..

There's a difference between someone who has fallen on hard times and someone who takes your money knowing that he isn't going to make you a knife.

Newt falls into the second category.

Even if he's delivering knives to some, he still owes others for their knife orders going back years.

This is the 4th time Newt has "come back". He gets enough of a bed reputation for taking $ for no knives, drops out for a while and then comes back to thieve from a new generation when things have cooled down a bit.

Don't give him the benefit of the doubt.

& i have heard of folks sending items in for repair/etc and not getting them back, it appears to me he is someone not to be trusted & with all the good dfolks around to do 'biz with i see no reason to buy from him, though the knives are ok (if ya get it anyway) his designs are hardly earth shattering one -of- a kinds unavailable elsewhere so with all the possible drama involved/etc i would just go elsewhere.

lifes to short to go thru worries about stuff like this.

Is there a secondary market for Livesay knives or has Newts reputation made his knives unsaleable, can ya break even sellin' one, the heck with makin' any money.

the last i saw sell, an airassault, sold for a fair price, i dont recall the amount, but the seller didnt take a beating on it, i have also seen a woo or 2 sold in the not too distant past and they went for ~ $50 or so, probably more than they originally sold for, so imho the bottom hasnt dropped out like some 'smiths stuff did when they had a lotta bad pub like IIRC cockrum (hawk knives, the japanese styled stuff) i know some folks who lost some $$ on his stuff,

of course most of newts stuff wasnt high dollar to begin with, the hawk stuff was in the $300 - $400 range i saw some for $200 and were not moving.
