Next GEC "surprise"?

This stunningly beautiful and large butterfly is called by the English The Camberwell Beauty or formerly, The Grand Surprize. In Europe and US it goes under the name of Mourning Shroud or some similar morbid name...

What a Great Surprize if GEC started doing Butterfly knives 🤩
Morio here (which means nothing!), gyászlepke (mourning cloak) in Hungary. They're getting scarce here. I saw only one this summer.
I like flying butterfly, but not in iron...except when they're singing 😊

🙂

I'm still hoping for a canoe. Little Indian Girl, or better yet, a larger canoe. Maybe a single blade. A lockback would be nifty.
I’ve been wishing for a canoe for what feels like forever. They never pop up on the secondary market. 🤞

Yes... Maybe a few models of their Farm and Field line, like a #71 and a Barlow, all constantly in stock at retailers at reasonable prices.
Huh? So just offshore those lines, or what are you thinking here? Seems like it would be quite a trick.

The Angus Jacks caught me by surprised, even though I knew they would be running 86s. I have a hard time believing it will just be those and our Forum knife on 86 frame. Maybe more cover choices on the Angus, but it seems like they would have just announced them. Wonder what other 86s we’ll see? More Barlows?

So I gotta ask…how other than the scalpers do you get one of these beauties? I’m always waiting for a catch and release for a Gec I like on the exchange? Seems like such a long shot these days. The angus in black really is a nice one. Love the federal shield.

You need to sign up for email notices and start hit the refresh about 30s before they go live.
You also need to have your credit card and address saved, preferably on the dealers web site. And still you need to be lucky.

Where'd that come from?
I didn't say anything about moving GEC production off shore.
You sure didn’t, sorry.

It would take a pretty massive boost in production though, to have a model or two be more affordable and constantly in stock, unless I’m missing something?

On the one hand you’ve got the demand, which as far as I can tell has never been higher. How would you see the supply catching up to that?

They do look fantastic, really hope you can get your hands on one. :)
I am gonna try and call a dealer or three. I will get one eventually;). I guess that’s a perk about creating 50…it doesn’t have to happen right this very second. The Gec runs are larger now so one will end up in my pocket eventually:)

I just don’t have it in me to do the refresh every 30 secs. Too busy reading here 😂

Like that idea, it would be like being able to go into a hardware/feed store and selecting a knife, like we used to do.
The problem does not exist at GEC, the problem exist with the market. The market as proven that it will not support this and that is why Schrade, Imperial, and the others went away.

In fact this market void of a quality producer with the existence of a few die hard fans I what allows GEC to exist in the first place.

I would like them to come up with some kind of knife they can keep in steady production.

I think (for a while, at least) that’s what GEC was trying to do with the Bull Nose. They ran them in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, and then this year. Those runs usually included some new/different/unique cover materials (some of them SFO’s) which were more likely to get snapped up quick, but they’ve also consistently reproduced them in covers like Orange Delrin, OD Linen Micarta, etc. year after year.

I could be wrong, of course, but I’d bet if they did 1,000 or 1,500 #71’s in the same cover every year — let’s say OD Linen Micarta, simply because I’ve never understood the appeal of the Orange Delrin, despite the fact that they’ve made more of those than any other cover (at least through 2018) and have obviously sold them all 😁 — that would satisfy demand and keep knives on dealers’ shelves.

+1! I also share your opinion on orange delrin (on Bull Nose, not on Case's) .

They don't have to mass produce them to Walmart levels, but they could pick a few popular models to keep in continuous production.

IMO I don't think GEC would be able to keep the doors open if they were making knives exclusively for people that just want to cut something..... The fanboys are collectors and speculators who keep the interest high...... There are many knife makers that crap out decent cutters for 1/2 the price that GEC can make a knife for.........

I think GEC's bread and butter is making short runs of varied patterns and handles that keep the collector's libido humming and wallets open...... To wit, I have a few hundred knives incl a couple hundred GEC...... I don't use a GEC to cut anything...... Cutting chores are reserved for a Case, Maserin, Civvi, etc...... YMMV......

I, for one, would love to see a run of larger pen knives: 79 work horse, 82 possum skinner, 53/4 equal end pen knife ( TK Cuban ), and my dream a 98 pen knife. Large and thin to ride nicely in a pocket.

Oh yeah , and I too would love to see a sowbelly!!
