This was originally designed to be simple. Yeah right!

The plan is for to clean that center fuller and engrave it pre-heat treat. First time I engrave the blade. I'll share with you guys the progress, as slow as it can be.

Thanks for looking.

I really dig your persians! As always, i am sure it will be amazing. Is that maple or box elder?

When I saw the top picture, I didn't know what was going on with the narrow bevels. When I saw the second picture, my jaw hit the floor. I'd really like to know how you did that.

Lightly dyed Maple Burl Mike.

Chris, it was done on the mill at first for the rougher work and then a lot of time on the Dremel. Which made me realize I really need a better rotary tool, namely a Foredom. :(

Greg, I am always open to suggestions. What did you have in mind? I wanted maybe something darker but I don't have your treasure trove of handle material. ;) This may be too busy with the engraving.

Hmmmm... Let me see what I can offer. I'll get back to you by this weekend (unless I have a senior moment).

Patrice I cannot help but think a nice white or bright wood would look better, alot of daggers of this type usually are bone/ivory or even jade. Still, no doubt it will turn out awesome.

Brilliant Sam! I was looking on the wrong direction. Light would be much better. Thanks!

Greg, maybe not Ivory though, remember I am a knifemaker so poe by definition. ;) Never worked with the stuff either so it would be nerve racking to say the least.

Chuck, I appreciate the heads up and would love to be able to afford one of these but I may have to "settle" for a Foredom budget wise. I would get the bigger motor one which is 1/3HP I think.

Thanks for the good words Frank. We'll see how things evolve.

I think bone would be a nice alternative to ivory, maybe small inlayed pins in bronze. You can dye and stain bone a lot of different ways. i am sure you will do an awesome job though.

Oh, Patrice... I'm not offering to sell you anything... I'll give you something nice to use. But if you don't want ivory, that's fine. I have some nice light and dark colored blocks that have less "busy" grain/patterns. I'll put together a selection tonight and you can pick one or two to play with.

Bone might be a good choice Sam. I'll look into it.
Greg, I really appreciate the offer but this is gonna be for sale so I would not feel comfortable not paying for it.

I vote for 4 or 17. Maybe camel or griaffe bone would sorta fit the design? Greg ya gotta tell us what all those are.

Honestly, in most cases I have no idea. I bought a lot of one-off pieces from the board hoarder (Steve Bartocci), then sent them off for stabilization. After stabilization, I sanded off the extra resin (and with it the names of the wood that had been written on). You can see the name of number 8... that's how most of them were when I bought them.

#1 is lignum vitae
#2 is buckeye burl
#6 is holly
#8 is Thevetia
#9 was one of the dyed maple burl pieces.
#10 is, I think striped ebony (by the way I just noticed #10 already has a hole in it, so you wont want that)
#11 is African blackwood
#19 is Maple
