  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Next in line...another Persian!

Cool. Just let me know if you need anything. I also have some horn, if you want to get a little more exotic.

A little progress. Cut out the shoulders on the mill.

And did some prototyping with cheap wood. Much quicker than steel to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. This is very rough. A you can see the pommel will probably be made of a different material than the handle. And that it will be...say it with me...a take down. :D

Thanks Dixie.

am i right in saying it's a "reinforced point," the kind suitable for punching through the chain mail of those pesky crusader knights?

Well, sorry I didn't think about you being in Canada! I can get 15-18" whole camel leg bones for abour 20$ here, maybe search for carving supply places. Believe it or not, ther are companies that deal only in animal bones! Last I checkd Texas Knife has camel bone in stock, but I think they have only scales, unless you're going to do a frame chassis type handle?

Where would you get that Xander? And can it be shipped across the border? Thanks.

Patrice there are listing for Camel bone on Ebay and they ship worldwide if Xander can't help you

I dont think shipping camel or giraffe to canada is a problem....not like they are harvested in the u.s. lol.

Xander, does bone need to be stabilized? If not maybe we could work something out.
I do have scales of stabilized moose antler that might work. Not doing a frame handle though. This is gonna be complicated enough as it is believe me.

Thanks for the good words and help guys. Long time no see Josh. Hope you are doing ok.

Thanks for the tips and links Phil.

Hank, sorry I forgot your post. You have a good eye. I did straighten the tip a little compared to my first persian to give it a little more strength. I actually have an hauberk here so I might just do a pierce test. ;) Of course it's not riveted links so it might not be an historically accurate test but cool none the less.

Pat.
I think you have this figured but what makes all the difference between the Foredom and a Dremel is the power choice made. I was going 0.
to replace my 1/5 HP dremel so I got a Foredom. It was a good buy in Canada because the selling price was the same as in the USA. However, I bought a standard model with lower power. I soon was back to the Dremel. Maybe not so bad a thing since it was a retirement gift from the fellows I worked with ! Frank

Thanks for the heads-up Frank. Yes I was gonna go with the biggest Foredom I can buy, 1/3HP I think. Power wise, I have not had any problems with the Dremel. Maybe because I haven't used it enough yet. But the main drawback is the size. It is just too bulky and is both uncomfortable and awkward to use for long periods of time. I want the small hand-piece of the Foredom.
