A little setback with the Khukuri :( so I figured it would be a good idea to get my mind off it for a few days. These will be for my two brothers and I. As Jonny (Mac) pointed out in chat last night, first time for me making 3 similar knives, never even made 2. And if you know me, you know that keeping things simple is not my forte. :o I'll try my best with these. They will be 3 fingers knives, or more if you have real tiny fingers. ;)
Specs will be roughly:

5" OAL with 2.25" CPM154 blades
African blackwood
Stainless guard (and probably butt plate)
Hidden tang

Thanks for looking.

I have a small piece of 1080 left from my last few knives, I was wanting to make a small finger knife, or lil stubby as my father likes to call them. I'll be interested in your handle technique, is balance an issue with such small knives?

Very cool Patrice! Didn't think I'd see any progress this quick. Very excited for this project:thumbup:

Sorry to hear about the problems with the Khuk! :( Give it a rest and maybe things can get back on track. Hope so, you've put a lot of work into that.

Blue, I don't think balance is a concern as much as ergonomics

Jonny, you are right, for me this is close to light speed. ;) That's what I thought about the Khukuri.

Thanks for the good words guys.

You WIP threads are up there with my favorite tv shows Pat. Cant wait to see how these turn out. I will tune in daily.

Subscribed!
I like watching your WIPs in Patrice, they are always very interesting. Sorry to hear about the Khukri, but I know you will get it figured out and when you finish it, it will be amazing!

Patrice,
I look forward to viewing you WIPs. I am stuck in front of a computer all day. Looking at your work is a good diversion and is the closest thing to working on knives in my workshop.

Ray

This will be exciting! I don't think I have seen any of your knives for sale here on the forums.

I think a hidden tang can save a lot of weight. (I'm into light backpacking).

Thanks guys. I don't think I will do this one as a WIP cause people will get tired of seeing the same basic stuff over and over again. But I still want to share what is going on so I think I will do like Nick (Wheeler) did and post random shots of stuff from the build that I think would be interesting. Great idea by the way Nick.

Redsquid, I have yet to sell a knife on here and only sold 2 to date. Well one and 1 pending. :o

As promise, random progress pics. The one hot from the kiln was out of focus but I still thought it was cool.

Sometimes it's good to step back and go back to stuff that you can make in your sleep. Builds your confidence again! After these, you'll be ready to go and just slay the rest of the kukri project.

Newbie questions, here: what are they wrapped in? What am I seeing on the blades in the last picture?

Don't know about slaying it Salem. I will settle for not screwing up too much. ;)

Stalbot, stainless steel foil and the darker stain on the blade is a little piece of paper I inserted in the envelope to help burn the oxygen in there.

A few more progress pics. My hats off to you guys making multiple copies of a knife. Getting them to come out exactly the same is hard. Those won't be for sure as you can already see. I'll chuck it up to creative license. ;)

Thanks for watching.

Thanks Jonny. My hat's off to you for making multiple copies of a particular model. First time I do it and probably the last. ;)

Dang, those are some chunky blocks of blackwood! I like that little bit of recurve you put in those edges.

Looking good, Patrice!
I think belt finishing is definitely the way to go for doing multiples.
