Next ones on the bench, 3 EDCs.

Latest progress pic. Not much cause I am trying to finish the Khukuri. Shaping up nicely, though these will be function over form. But I still want to give them a little flair.

I hope that is the finished shape, because i really like it.

What is the spacer material at the butt end? Is it one thick chunk of metal?

Thanks guys.

This will be the basic shape yes but I have to refine it a little. The pommel is one piece of stainless steel.

I like the look of those Patrice, this may have already been answered, but what is the size of those?

Here is a little progress on the 3 EDCs, well one of them at least. Started shaping the blackwood to make it a little more interesting and I must say, very comfortable in the hand.

But it is still way too butt heavy so we are going another way with the pommel shape. Still a lot of work if I want to come up with something visually pleasing. And to think that when I am finally done, I get to do it all over again...twice. :(

Very Cool Patrice.

If you like the overall shape of the pommel why not mill out pockets on the inside to get the right balance?

Keep up the good work :)

Ah! I'm still waiting for you to turn them into Steampunk folders with tiny battery powered gears and pistons. Seriously though, doing a straightward knife, or knives, must be a relief.

Thanks Timos. I do plan to lighten the pommel in some way by milling a pocket as you suggested or just drilling a few holes. Gotta finish the shape first though to know where I can remove material. But with the original shape I was afraid that even that would not have been enough because of the size.

David, not really a relief since I have to constantly fight the urge to complicate things. Maybe when this one is done and I just have to copy it.
But the last one being mine you never know what can happen. I do have a box of stuff labeled "Steampunk" for future projects. ;)

Patrice, did you weld a screw to the tang on those? If so, how are you planning to finish off the bit so the screw doesn't show?

Thanks Frank.

Medicevans, these are not through tang, the treaded rod is simply inserted in the wood. I will turn a proper nut that will hide the protruding rod.

Did you thread the wood then epoxy them in? By thread drill the hole a little undersized and then screw it in? Does that makes sense?

Hello , Pat. Your work always looks finished almost all of the time !! Have you concidered going to a more narrow handle? If should reduce the weight and make the knife edge more easy to find without having to look at it. Frank

Yes Frank no1 ;), makes perfect sense and that is exactly how I did it. They are not yet epoxied though as I still have a lot of shaping to do and it is easier to do separately first.

Frank no2 ;), do you mean the thickness? I did not think of that, good idea, I'll look into it. It is quite small so I don't have a lot of room to play with but even a little would help. Thanks.

Dang, those are some chunky blocks of blackwood! I like that little bit of recurve you put in those edges.

That is exactly what I was thinking! Seems like a gigantic block, you could have ripped at least two pieces out of?

Of course, I have never used a block of wood, or made any hidden tang knives. Nor am I awesome!

The blocks might have been a tad oversized but I did not know exactly what I needed for the width at the pommel. I wish I was awesome. :o

Latest progress pics. Getting pretty close to final shape. Mostly cleaning up and finishing left to do. For the pommel nut I had a few ideas but I think this is the one that I like best. In fact something similar should work great for another knife design I have in mind.

Awesome! I really like how you set the nuts down in there, and the handle shaping shows a lot of creativity too.
