Having just had the chance to see @Non.Nisi.Te ’s skinner, I’m going to offer some thoughts, unsolicited and I’ll wager wholly unappreciated.
It’s a cute little knife. The danger is in assuming the simple look means it’s simple to make.
It isn’t.
At least, not the way Nate and crew do it.
For that knife to be done properly, it needs to be hand ground. In that shop, anyway. It’s not like the side project that the original skinners were, as AIM at that time was a machine shop, doing real work, and the knife stuff was a side gig.
This is me talking out my ass, but my ass is pretty well educated by knifemaker ass standards, and I’ll wager that a reasonable price for something akin to the original skinner should be in the $700 range, given today’s market.
Now, having dropped this stinking turd right here, I’ll leave you to talk amongst yourselves.
Mr G, a rare few of those early OG Skinners came with handmade leather pouches by Jo! I had seen one but maybe there were just a few out in the wild. There were a couple of Skinners at the last Gathering when you we're also there, both of which were offered as prizes, one ending up with N.N.T and the other changing hands at below 1K, granted that it had wood scales (they both did) but I think that Nathan had put a value of 500 on them. Depending on the steel and the options, I agree with you that the new Skinner will be in the same range as the DEK3, i.e, ~ 450 to 750 (heavy with options), but maybe 400 (for basic) if Nathan convinces himself, Family and the Crew again that Ramen is both nutritious and healthy

Oh, the Kukri? 1K+
