I'm feelin it these days, gettin my little hobbit shop workable. It's friggin hard, running a business 6 days a week, bein a good dad and husband, having other time consuming interests, to find time to make some knives. All I know is I don't have time to waste, so I 'plan' a lot:p:rolleyes:.

I think there's gonna be some finished knives here within half a year, hopefully less.

There are another three projects, one of which is closest to getting done, (PiF knife). Started that about a year ago....:jerkit:

I'm really just hoping that starting this thread will make it stick. It's kind of a commitment to you guys, maybe help me keep it goin like before.

I'll keep updates going here, like a WiP, only really long and boring.
:)

I wish you time and success!

If you get them even near the drawings they will be winners.

Lorien, I for one am looking foward to this, no matter how long it takes! Both blades look very interesting.

Your drawings are outstanding!

Lorien I like that top knife cant wait to see it done it is good to see that you are going to keep making when you have the time. You have a very keen eye for knife design and it shows in in these pics

Ooooh, I love the drawings, these are gonna be sweet. WIP 'em out!

thank you all very much for the kind words! That's very nice indeed :).

The fighter I'm thinking of as a 'vest knife', and the plan is for a very slim build and an inverted armpit carry system. I plan to hollow grind this knife with my frankengrinder...we'll see how that goes!

The deer antler knife I'm calling a 'Nesslok'- as it is obviously nessmuky in shape, but is big and very thick, and the blade will be sharp all around the front, like a golok. For this guy, a Scagel-esque appleseed grind will be the goal, with a very acute edge. 3V is cool steel and I want to make the most of its great properties. This knife will likely be made using files and paper only. Gonna need some new files, as my old ones are pretty much done:(.

Alpha Knife Supply is my next stop. Gotta pick up some g10 for spacer material and a couple other bits and bobs.

I plan to put up a couple of other projects I have started as well, so expect this thread to be a bit of a dog's breakfast:p

You are so gonna get there! Only a few blinks and we are gonna see that finished product! Best of luck!

That first knife is a beaut! Subscribed!

Both look good.
I like top one best. (more my style and something about it seems familiar)
Not to sure about the plunge line though.
I will enjoy watching these evolve.

you oughta recognize that chunk of wood Mark!
what would you suggest for the plunge?

so, a little background info on materials, because it's important to me due to the fact that some of the materials came from spontaneous gestures of generosity. In fact, the other knives which will show up in this thread were also triggered by the generosity of others who have taken an interest in encouraging me along.
In every case, I feel a commitment to take these materials and turn them into something. It's a little different than picking and choosing materials and moving forward from the ground level. It's like a headstart, so to those who have enabled my personal quest, let me just say THANK YOU!

The Pit Fighter, (so named after the fact that it is carried in one's armpit :) ) will have a blade of CPM S30V, which I bought from Alpha Knife Supply, (also where the copper for the guard came from). The dyed and stabilized burl wood, (Mark, please fill in the blanks here- I think it's maple, but...) came from It's a Burl! Mark Farley has access to and inventory of some of the most amazing wood ever seen! His contact info is in his signature which appears in a couple posts up. The copper nail occurred locally, as a carpenter friend of mine donated some of his precious copper nails for the purpose of making knives. G10 for the spacer will be purchased very soon.

The NessLok will be made from CPM 3V, which was graciously sent to me by our man Petah, along with that sea cow rib chunk. I'm going to make a sheath for him one day, and hopefully NOT for a Busse, (no offense!). I purchased the bronze sheet and pin material from Alpha Knife Supply, who I also just ordered the G10 spacer material from for this and the Pit Fighter, and for another project that is underway. The deer antler, (which is a little too pithy, but the perfect shape) was given to me by a friend who killed the deer with his bow, and who subsequently ate most of the rest of it.
