Design change, correctable error or whatever you want to call it I am not seeing any. Your doing great and the hard work is showing. Well done far.

Chris

Lorien, judging from the designs of yours that I've seen and the work you've posted, its time to change "knife cartoonist wannabe" to something a little more accurate.

Knife Caricature Artist?

Looking good Lorien, you have more drive than I do!

lol and wtf?
your porsche is kicking my volkswagen's ass Ryan. Maybe I need to put a porsche engine into my volkswagen.

Haha Sorry Lorien, I thought we were looking for other names for "Knife Cartoonist Wannabe"

I would call mine a Volvo to your Volkswagen. Keep it up! FYI: I have officially started the PIF "A" Guarded knife.

I like 'knife caricature artist'. The wtf was all about the drive comment. Coming from you, man- well let's just say I think you have more drive to not only make a lot of knives, but seek to improve with ever effort more so than almost anyone else I can think of.

You are as about as fearless as any knife maker out there, always pushing boundaries and humble enough to take critique and use it to the max!

I had a conversation with a renowned Mastersmith just the other day who told me that you are one of two guys, (Stu Branson was the other) who he wanted to have a knife from. Not the first time I heard that either!

Needless to say, I am proud to be your friend, my friend :)

Now get out there and slap a guard on that sucker! It's easy! ;)

Wow Lorien, you have a few on the go all at once by the look of things. Now as my father used to say..... Take your time,,,, Hurry up! :D
Cheers Keith

Big thanks to Stuart for a great visit today, and especially for letting me use a grinder. I could get used to having one of my own one day :)
Thanks also for cleaning up my crappy grinds some, too.

'gimping on the butt'?!
Is this the Cove?:D

just havin a little fun with ya, Count!:foot::D

This knife was initially designed for a specific clientele, many of whom would be wearing gloves while carrying and/or using the knife. The idea was that the texture would provide added traction that wearing gloves often compromises.

The handle is also oversized a bit, particularly the the knuckle zone, in order to accommodate the extra real estate that gloves require.

The texture at the butt of the handle is there to provide traction for the heel of the hand when pushing the point into stuff, ie; scraping out mortar between bricks or something that would require leverage for a pushing motion out at the tip. In a reverse grip, the thumb rests on the texture and accomplishes pretty much the same thing, (only in reverse) and also gives added traction when stabbing the knife into stuff.

The texture behind the guard is intended to provide a little extra safety through both the indexing consideration and traction. The guard is very small on this knife and the thinking is the the texture wouldn't get in the way so why not try it? It's a theory that I'm looking forward to testing.

Now that the original client for this pattern is no longer pursuing production, I have some ideas on how to make the texturing work without causing unnecessary irritation in a bare hand. I generally hate wearing gloves, so I'm gonna make it work.

The guard area jimping could just be ground off since it seems that a finger would fit better with a slightly larger recess anyway. Just a suggestion, the knife looks good and I don't think it would tear up my finger at all.
