next projects

I'm feelin it these days, gettin my little hobbit shop workable. It's friggin hard, running a business 6 days a week, bein a good dad and husband, having other time consuming interests, to find time to make some knives. All I know is I don't have time to waste, so I 'plan' a lot:p:rolleyes:.

I think there's gonna be some finished knives here within half a year, hopefully less.

There are another three projects, one of which is closest to getting done, (PiF knife). Started that about a year ago....:jerkit:

I'm really just hoping that starting this thread will make it stick. It's kind of a commitment to you guys, maybe help me keep it goin like before.

I'll keep updates going here, like a WiP, only really long and boring.
:)

Hello from Kelowna Lorien,
as mentioned several times your drawings are excellent...........
I completely understand your position with finding time for the shop with business, family, not to mention the Okanagan summers that seems to attract family pretty much every weekend !!
Look forward to more pics !!
Cheers
Rob

Thank you for the kind words, gentlemen!

Patrice, that's a good question. The reason I post in C&H is because this is kind of my 'home' forum. I love Shoptalk and lurk there regularly, but this forum is where I'm at most of the time. If there is interest in my thread from folks whose home is Shoptalk, then perhaps they will spend more time in the C&H forum and that is a good thing!

I mostly lurk in Shoptalk too but I am going to have to spend more time here. Cool folder btw, is it a framelock?

Lorien,
About the plunge line, ...I don't know.
It will probably turn out looking great.
At first glance it just struck me a little funny.

You are correct about the wood. Dyed Black & Stabilized Maple burl by K&G.

If you feel more at home here I understand. I just thought that this forum was more for "Look at this finished knife" and Shoptalk for "Look at this knife in progress/I am working on". Since you are making the transition from collector to maker (from the little I gathered), I also thought you'd spend more time in Shoptalk. Some very helpful people over there. Not that people are not helpful here of course, just more from the making side of this wonderful addiction of ours.
Keep up the good work.

well, what can I say? I'm enigmatic:)

traveling tool salesman dropped by the shop last week. He buys from Boeing and other places and has lots of neat stuff for cheap, some of it you just can't really buy anywhere, as it's tooled up for places like Boeing that he deals with, or so he says;).

But, carbide drill bits and some specialty stuff aside, he pulled out this file, (I gotta plan better for his next visit, and make sure I have more $ to spend!). $25 seemed like a great deal, and most of my files are pretty hurtin these days. It was a serendipitous event. I like that stuff. It's so eery.

Any progress on the knives?
Both look like they will be great knives.
I just thought about these today.
Guess I am just looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

thanks a lot Mark- I've been thinking a lot about this thread lately, too.
I've since taken on my first commissioned knife, if ya can believe it. So I've been spending all my spare brain time tweaking the design. Not that there's been much time, this is a crazy time of year for me with bicycle stuff.
Things are going to be a little more 'normal', (if there is such a thing) when school recommences next week, and soonish I'll be switching to winter hours.
I was thinking about posting up the commissioned design here in the next little bit.
It's a 'next project':) A bit of a priority, as I am looking forward to making some money to reinvest in some tools and supplies.

here's the kayak knife that's bumped my other projects back;

Probably order the steel next week from knifemaker.ca , just gotta finish renovating my daughter's room first. Priorities, priorities!

Lorien, what are the circles with crosshairs for as far as the drawing is concerned?
