Nice EDC for $500 ?

And wait up to 2 years to get your knife, only to be disappointed. No, unless you are experienced with customs, I suggest you stick with mid-techs like Hinderer or CRK that have lots of feedback from owners, and are made to custom standards.

I would suggest you go custom, if you're willing to spend that much.

That's pretty subjective, friend. Compared to a Spyderco Tenacious $500 is a lot, but compared to a $20,000 Michael Walker...

At $500, I'd look into a Dozier or maybe something from John W. Smith. You can get something kickass from Alan Davis for five hundred bones.

This dude speaks the truth.

You can get a John W Smith SD for right at $500 or a F-5 flipper for just over $500.

I LOVE my F-5, almost as much as my Vagnino Velox (also available just over $500!)

That F5 flipper is sexy. Tip down, right? I want one in tip up.

To the OP, I don't believe the Les George VECP has been suggested yet. It's a sweet knife. I prefer it to the Sebenza. I believe I paid $385 from Les.

hmm I'll mention something that wasn't. Pohl Force Mike One? Looks interesting, check it out!

It is tip down, just the way I wanted it. I carry it back pocket. The LCSF is finished better than any LCSF I have ever handled.

I've been looking at some Spydercos for between $200-$250.

The LionSpy and Szabo. Two very different knives. But both appeal to me. The Szabo is big though. Might be a little to long to carry discreetly even in a coat or vest. But it looks nasty !

And the LionSpy is super beefy. I like that. But I don't know much about Elmax steel. I like the design of both knives.

Also , what's the difference between DLC and Titanium-Carbonitride blade coatings ? Is one better than the other?

These are just a couple more knives that caught my eye.

If you like the look of the lionspy and your budget is $500 you'd be better off getting a real sr-1. Its a fantastic knife, top shelf f&f and its damn sexy.

I have one in my edc rotation and I can't see myself ever getting rid of it.

Just sent you an e-mail on a tip up F5 I found.

CRK Umnumzaan or Sebenza. I've had Hinderers; sold 'em.
I carry a Zaan or a Sebbie...every day.

Another vote for the Umnumzaan. They are just fantastic knives. Smooth as butter, carries nice in the pocket, and cooler to look at then a Sebenza (not a bad choice either). Something else to consider is a Combative Edge SR-11. I just got one and it is the second most comfortable knife I own. They are less than half your budget and are really great for EDC.

CRK, Hinderer and Bodega field grade would all be great. For half the money you might also want to look at the Spyderco Southard. Very versatile 3.5 inch blade, CTS-204P steel, fast to deploy, and fits a pocket much better than the "larger" knives. All a matter of taste...

Dude for that much money, spend a solid month looking at knives and see what floats your boat. It's all so subjective... For instance, I wouldn't want a single one of the knives suggested in this thread except for the Dozier.
