That's pretty subjective, friend. Compared to a Spyderco Tenacious $500 is a lot, but compared to a $20,000 Michael Walker...
At $500, I'd look into a Dozier or maybe something from John W. Smith. You can get something kickass from Alan Davis for five hundred bones.
If you can get a Kirby Lambert for five hundred, jump on it!
That F5 flipper is sexy. Tip down, right? I want one in tip up.
To the OP, I don't believe the Les George VECP has been suggested yet. It's a sweet knife. I prefer it to the Sebenza. I believe I paid $385 from Les.
I've been looking at some Spydercos for between $200-$250.
The LionSpy and Szabo. Two very different knives. But both appeal to me. The Szabo is big though. Might be a little to long to carry discreetly even in a coat or vest. But it looks nasty !
And the LionSpy is super beefy. I like that. But I don't know much about Elmax steel. I like the design of both knives.
Also , what's the difference between DLC and Titanium-Carbonitride blade coatings ? Is one better than the other?
These are just a couple more knives that caught my eye.
