Nick Shabazz 2021 knife of the year predictions

It seemed like a pretty obscure choice; from a new maker.
I didn't agree...

Interesting picks, two were companies I had only discovered this year.

Will buy the Drift when I have the pennies and get the civivi.

Definately nothing from the overbuilt end of the spectrum which is no surprise.

If you are talking about Tactile Knife Co. as a company you just discovered there would be a reason for that.

They just started.

I really like my Rockwall. It's one of the only knives on bearings I still like enough to keep.

Not to hijack the thread, but why don't you like bearings? I don't like them either, but I have a hard time putting a finger on the reason why.

Interesting. I’ve never followed Shabazz but the Quiet Carry Drift is definitely one of my fav knives.
Love my drift but can’t for the life of me get it centered up. Detent on mine was way too light too, that I managed to fix. Love the knife but imo too many little issues like that for knife of the year!

Bummer. Have you thought about contacting Quiet Carry? I’m curious how good their warranty department is. Seems like a small company who would take care of their customers but I don’t know.

I bought a drift with black G 10 scales and like it so much that I just recently bought a TI one when they came back in stock. Both of mine arrived perfectly centered. The G 10 drift was a little stiff until I got it broken in but now is really smooth. The TI one arrived incredibly smooth from the factory.

They suck in dirty environments. Where I live we get haboobs and the sky is brown pretty often with wind blown dust. I've had knives on bearings get gritty in a day when they never left my pocket.

On the contrary I've had a SHF buried in sandy mud working on irrigation leaks and it feels exactly the same afterwards.

Good question, no I haven't contacted them. I don't want to give the impression it's a bad knife or anything, I really like the Drift, enough that I've even considered picking up another one with the knurled ti scale (and maybe selling off my smooth one). I chalk this up more to my being pretty OCD about centering and detent, it's minor enough an issue that I'd feel I was being pretty unreasonable sending it back in. I would be curious to hear how their customer support is though, if anyone else has experience? And it's pretty clear Nick puts a heavy premium on compact and slim knives that don't do too much in terms of design complexity, and slice very well, so I'm not surprised he picked the Drift!
