Nick Shabazz 2021 knife of the year predictions

Do you buy the knives that Nick suggests?
Or do you just them a quick peek?

D Docscoot I wonder how long they'll stay "in stock" tomorrow. And to all that'll be there refreshing the crap outta ya browsers, good luck!

Knife companies aren't sending free samples to popular YouTube reviewers because they have a nice smile (in cases where you can see their face). That kind of boost is instantly noticeable at the retail level.

For me, it's sometimes a knife I've been looking at getting and can be the nudge to go from being on the list to acting on the list. The Baby Banter isn't a knife I'd buy for myself, but is a good gift knife for a lady with smaller hands. I did order the Arroya, because it's been on my list for a while and I wanted a representation of Artisan Cutlery's AR-RPM9 steel. The Drift knife by Quiet Carry is going to be getting a big bump from this.

My one experience with Quiet Carry has been disappointing. I bought the Strand when he was just getting started as a Kickstarter. The D2 blade developed rust spots IN ARIZONA and the hardware was soft and stripped out with light use. Apparently they’ve raised their game lately.

I’ve been looking at the Tactile Rockwall for a while and when I saw they had a version with thumb studs, I had to grab one. I’ll post my first impressions.

Interesting to hear. There are reports of heads breaking off the screws as well with Quiet Carry. The bad hardware problems plus them keeping the county of origin secret so long kind of felt shady and really made me surprised by the hype. I'm interested in trying Vanax but am waiting on some long term reviews or to see if more companies will put out knives with it instead.

I'm surprised the Bexar took the win. I wasn't impressed with it when I handled one. Meh, different strokes, for different folks.

I agree whole heartedly about the Ti Quiet Carry Drift though. I absolutely love mine. I don't like liner locks, but maybe I'll give the Baby Banter a try sometime. I don't see it unseating my V-Toku2 or K390 Wharncliffe Dragonfly's though.

My personal knife of the year was the Spartan Harsey 3.25. No question.

I really had high hopes for the Demko AD20.5 as well. If only they released a version in g10 and a better steel that would have been knife of the year for me with no question.

I was too.

Tiny knife w/no clip that can only be carried w/a lanyard if you want to be able to easily pull it out of your pocket. Not much knife for $199 even if it's being offered w/a MagnaCut blade and it bugged me that they wanted $40 more for a bead to use to attach a lanyard cord to it.

I'd rather pocket my Swiss Army Explorer instead which would be of greater usefulness to me.

PS: While I sometimes find Nick's "reviews" of interest, as I do others, I often do not agree w/his assessments (nor with those of others) regarding the quality/value of a knife. This is just another instance of that for me.

The trend for him seems to be smaller, slimmer, and simpler knives each year, next year my guess is knife of the year will just be an X-Acto knife :)
