Nick Wheeler Prototype Fighter. "Oh YEA "......

Good story Joe and this looks like a very cook project for sure. Looking forward to seeing the outcome though I know it will be top notch.

Jon

I am very interested in seeing this one looks finished! I like the blade profile!

Jeff

Complaining about crazy hamons.
Oh, Mr. Wheeler, most of us consider that a good thing.

Nick put down the sandpaper and please step away from the table...

Haha, I didn't meant to complain ;) :)

It's all working out fine now.

Matt... there's probably room in my order book for a Gregory knife that could be clay hardened and polished with BABY unicorn belly fur....

Probably....

Just say'n. ;) :)

Angi not only let me work in the shop all week-end, she stuck with me to keep me company. If I make it as a knife maker, it will be because of her. :)

Nick sent me some pics and I am stoked

These are turning out bad ass

IMHO the perfect wicked fighter

Angie asked Nick what these where for he told her self defense . I told him to tell her skinning :)

Hey Joe-

Progressing ahead nicely. Behind because of the heat-treat FUBAR's... but that's history now.

Working on guard and handle, but taking a quick brake to send you these pics.

This one is scrawny... only 0.290" so hopefully it will hold up to you, 'ya ape!

THANKS JOE!!!

Damn!!!!those look killer!! Now the hardest decision Is..... Micarta or wood??? At first thought...micarta was the plan
although...these look so good already that the micarta... May need to be "upgraded" to some type of wood...hmmm..
Snakewood? Or ruff and tuff black micarta???

Everything else about these knives are a no brainer!

I'd like to publicly thanks Joe and Nick for tackling this project..Nick for making us these... And Joe for designing and
helping the knife community in organizing these projects that graces us knife nuts with great blades from great makers with unheard of short wait times!

Thank you both!

Jeff

Nick, maybe if you coated the blade with some kind of baked on tiger striped teflon or epoxy substance, the accidental hamon probably wouldn't be that noticeable.:D

the knives are looking sweet, but it's the partnership I find so fascinating. What custom knives are all about, for me, anyway.

Joe,

Congratulations.

It looks like you are about to add another super knife to your collection.

The knife looks great! Though I'd never get anything done with someone as good looking as Angie in the shop. I find Matt a lot les distracting... :)

Ditto that.

Thanks guys :)

Joe, that's a great idea!!! ;) :D Maybe I'll just paint them with some Martha Stewart Living Latex paint. :foot: ;)

Jon- I figured somebody would notice a lack of a fancy, schmancy glue-up clamp! ;) :) Sometimes, simpler is better, and this was one of those times. If I can securely clamp a knife in a bar clamp that's my first choice just because it's fast and easy. The only modification is a piece of G10 with a little groove in it on the fixed end, for the tip of the blade to rest in.

Jeff- right this minute I have a large slab of olive green micarta in the shop, as well as some BIG chunks of natural micarta. I'll have a lot more black in the shop soon.

Roger- I don't know.... I find Matt quite distracting AND not as much fun to look at as Angi... seems kind of like a lose/lose there. :p ;) :D Angi's always screaming, "Get that shit done you worthless SOB!!!@*#!*!!#@*!!!" So I am very motivated with her around. :foot: ;) ;) ;) (just josh'n of course!!!).

I am extremely grateful for Joe spearheading this project!!! It has been a lot of fun, a great learning tool for me in MANY ways (more of the business related end of it than the actual knife making part) and it's been a real boost to my confidence in making it as a bladesmith knowing how folks have taken to the project.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!

BTW- I'm secretly making Joe P's out of mosaic damascus and ivory so he'll be afraid to use it.   ;) :p :D

My prayers have been answered!

I must confess that when Joe told me that Nick was building a series of 10 knives, I thought turning water into wine might be a little easier project.

It is absolutely fabulous news that 10 new owners will experience the raw joy of holding a Wheeler knife in their hands!

Joe Paranee and Angi deserve the highest praise for lighting a bonfire fire under Mr. Nick!

LOL. He was told by his gal that he had to leave the blades in an "unfinished" state or else!!!!!!!! Do you remember how Bugs Bunny kinda goes into a seizure when he sees the big furry orange monster in tennis shoes? That is how I envision Nick reacting when he is told that he has to stop at 600 grit. ;)
