Twindog,

- snip-

Do some research before you post stupidity, and accusations like this, because it makes you look like a complete fool to those of us who know the issue and the TRUTH!

Todd J. Rathner

Yeah Twindog, you don't share my views, so I'll start out polite and then end up calling you names.

LOL Gotta love the Internet.

Yes, Quiet, your ignorance on this issue is quite "SHOCKING"!

A guy with the username "knifelobbyist". Yeah, you sound like an impartial sort.

But hey, call me names, I'm sure I'll see the error of my ways and come over to your side.

This has nothing to with political leanings*, though I imagine that's your attempt at making another joke, right?

*Hi, not liberal. Speaking of which, I find it amusing that you claim to care more about people....but you're participating in the Capital Punishment thread in Political. So, you're essentially not really down with people or animals, are you?

Victims are people too. If you want to stop the victimization you have to discourage the crime. Your sensitivity is commendable, but your strategy needs a re-think.

I make my very modest living lobbying for knife owners, collectors, makers and manufacturers, protecting guys like you. What have you done for you right to own knives? Twindog's accusations against Doug Ritter are disgusting.

You aren't doing anything for "guys like me", so please stop acting like you are. I live in Florida, and have amazing knife rights. So, stop acting like you're on some noble quest to "protect guys like me". You're a paid schill, nothing more.

My, this is all going smoothly.

At least now the mammoths will be safe in New Jersey.
Extinct creatures of the Earth unite!

You are silent on the real question: What have you done in your life to protect knife rights? Please tell me, I am waiting to hear what you have accomplished.

Hey man, don't make fun. This lobbyist here is the only thing standing between you and total knife-confiscation, pal! He's protecting YOU. M'kay?

LOL

You're the lobbyist, why don't you tell us all what YOU'VE accomplished, buddy? Why don't you tell us all what YOU have done (as a lobbyist and all) to "protect" us? Where is the list of bills that have been passed that you personally got pushed through that allowed greater rights to "guys like me"?

I mean, tell us what we've gotten thanks to your "modest living" earned while "protecting" us. You're the lobbyist, so really, shouldn't you have started out on that tack rather than asking me, who made no claims whatsoever about pushing knife rights, what I'M doing? Let's see what YOU'VE got, since you actually are getting paid to do it.

+1 quiet, knifelobbyist reminds me of the guy who posted looking for chumps to help play customers in his guided reality show about a halfwit knife maker.

Wow, I just got this strange sense of deja vu. ;)

Now we are getting off topic.

Oh man, Killgar, where have you been, brother? Careful, we have a senior government official in this thread, so tread carefully.

Somewhere along the line in the debate on ivory bans it was said custom knifemakers were commonly using post ban ivory and calling it mammoth. Can anyone name a maker that does this? If so, has he been cut from the Guild and or ABS? How about prevented from having a table at the Blade show? If these people are common we should all be taking turns kicking their asses, not buying their knives. But I don't personally think there are any great numbers of makers doing that.

I just arrived at the party, looks like you're having fun. lol

I'm just visiting though, gonna sit this one out. I don't do sequels. They're rarely as good as the original. :D

Give em hell brother.

(I'm splitting this response because I'm having trouble posting to this site)

USFWS and NGOs like the Wildlife Conservation Society have had a huge hand in spreading the misinformation discussed above. They are doing this to create an hysteria in the US and Europe to impose restrictions favored by animal rights groups but lack scientific justification. It serves as great fundraising fodder for NGOs, allows USFWS to expand its budget and authority, but does more to hurt elephants than help them. I'll provide corrections to the false assertions quoted above with support for these corrections.

First, I acknowledge elephant poaching is a problem in Africa. How major a problem depends on where you are at. Africa is a big continent, and some countries do a much better job at protecting elephants than others. That is why the African Elephant is NOT considered an endangered species. It is threatened, and in some areas seriously, but in countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Tanzania, the populations are stable and may actually be too large for the habitat to support. That's why the African elephant population has remained stable at around 500,000 animals since the moratorium on international trade of ivory went in place in 1990.

The Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) and related organizations carefully track elephant populations in Africa (and Asia). These estimates are the gold standard for the health of populations in Africa.

If you had a clue you would realize that I fight "government officials", daily. But expecting you to know that would be..well...just silly.
