No Bucks in WalMart?

HI Badhammer -

I went to my local wally-world last night and because of this post I went back and checked.

My local Super Wally has three Buck models, including the 110, which sells for $28.95.

best regards -

Still at WM around here, too. The problem is that they sell them out quickly, no matter how many they seem to put out. In the two or three WM around the house, they have indeed reduced the shelf/rack space they used to have for pocket knives. They carried several Gerbers, a couple of models of SAKs, and Bucks. Now it is a couple of models of Gerber and Bucks.

Our sporting goods departments at the local WM seem to be invaded with fishing gear, taking away the space from stuff like knives.

Really Jeff,

I guess this is just a wishful thought from me then! But, how do you explain this?

Most interesting... I'm on it. Sometimes Wal-Mart on-line will carry different stuff, but in talking to our sales analyst WMOL hasn;t ordered this. He is checking into a couple possible scenarios... Has anyone bought one? It could be mislisted.

you guys just like to send me down rabbit holes don't you? :D

I'll be the test case, I just ordered one from them.

I picked up my latest 110 a few weeks ago from my local store. It came
with the nylon sheath, but actually came in the big Buck box. It was
about 30.00 with tax IIRC. As mentioned, it's probably just a location
and out of stock thing.
Regards Sonny

Stopped by WalMart and got a new 110 with nylon sheath for $30.42, $28.97 + tax. I had one back in the early 1980's but haven't been able to find it though I'm sure I ran across it a few years ago while going through some of my old Navy struff.

Anyway my new one, while obviously much shinier and tighter also seems like the bolsters are more rounded than my old one. Other than that and the difference in the sheaths, (leather/nylon) they are about the same as best I can recall. Gotta keep looking for my old one but either way I now realize how much I missed not having it with me all these years. The 110 is a very nice knife!

Hammer, I hope you can find your 1980's mfg. 110 and compare the two . As you'll notice several subtle differences in the two . Then photo them and we'll help you talk about it . Your 80's knife had different steel as well and solid Macassar ebony slabs . DM

Interesting to hear about the lack of stock in the stores. This economy is really pressing dealers to be more tolerant of stockouts so they can minimize inventories. Makes it harder to ensure they are in stock.

We just sent out last week the new products for the new assortment that should be in the stores in August. As jeff said we made some gains in additional models and that means competition took some losses. Of our 9 models 6 will be US made...and yes the 110 and 119 continue on.

Chuck Buck told me that WalMart sells the 110 as a loss leader -- it's really a $65 knife. I have to agree, a 110 for $29 is an incredible deal.

I went by wal-mart yesterday to get some shotgun shells and ball bearings for my wrist rocket, and decied to pick up another 110. It was 28.97, a great deal, considering last time I bought a 110 from Wal-mart it was like 39.99

Did your last one come with a leather or nylon sheath? I've seen the 110 offered on line at about $10-$12 difference depending on which sheath you get. The 110 on Walmarts website doesn't mention a sheath but is priced at $49.98.

Think about inflation.

When I got out of the service about 1970......new cars were selling for $3000 and Buck 110s were selling for $30.

Now new cars cost ten times that, but the Buck 110 is not selling for ten times that (or $300)......it's still selling for $30.

Amazing value.

The one I got yesterday came with a really cheap nylon sheath. The one I bought there years ago also came with a nylon sheath, but it was a lot better.

Guess if you don't have one already, you have to buy your sheath separately in some places.

I usually buy used, older knives these days and NEVER go to Wal-Mart unless it's an urgent purchase that I can't make anywhere else.

Scum store and getting worse.
