No more autos or balis for me!

I know what you feel...I carried my CS Safe Maker I every day until I realised it was illegal not only to carry, but also to own in my country. Stupid laws here in Europe, really.

So, it now stays in my safe and I just take it out to play and fondle it.
Cr*p. I loved that little muthafucka.

I also carry waved folders, and have found them to be as fast to deploy as the SM I when I carried it. So, we share both feelings. Great youtube channel, BTW!

Nope. I can carry both, legally, openly or concealed here.. ..and i do.

I would feel your pain but i live in a free state......well free in modern times anyways.;)

Here in Vt you can carry pretty much anything, and I mean anything-but possession of an auto of 3" or over is illegal...not enforced much, but it's on the books. I can't justify spending money on stuff I just open mail with.
Now NH on the other hand...everything's legal.

I see what you mean CM, not only that, but there is the issue of getting your auto fixed and shipped back to you if something fails on it. Usually you have to find a dealer to send it in for you and pay shipping both ways. It's a little more of a hassle than with any other type of knife. FWIW, i think it's ridiculous that an honest citizen can't carry an auto knife in public, but what really grinds me are the laws saying that you can't even own one in your own home. I've said it before, using an auto knife around my house or on my own property, or even just having them in their box with the rest of my collection in my gun safe will never be a danger to ANYONE. My house, my rules is the way I see it in that respect.

I've avoided autos as well, it makes little sense when I cannot carry it. Technically I can either openly or with a ccw but it still doesn't seem worth the hassle

Honestly I dont enjoy knives for rationality. I carry them because I enjoy them. And even though I cant carry my autos, I do use them in my house which I enjoy. And while I am in public I very rarely have a need for my knife in suburbia. I use them all the time but its mostly at times I could be carrying an auto anyways. Now If a knife comes along that I want sure the knives that get used the least are the first to go. But if I used rational and logic before buying and using knives Id probably not own any of them. And really CM you carry most folders with blades over 5 inches. Do you need a 5 inch blade for most of your tasks or do you just like it? I get what you are saying and it makes sense if you are wanting to free money up for something but I would hate to see you giving up things you genuinely enjoy because of over rationalizing.

I carry a megafolder(s) because I follow Rex Applegate's teachings on blade length.

I used to be happy with 3"-4" blades. Then I came back from Iraq. These days it's about feeling safe. I keep 2 plate carriers and gas masks in the trunk of my car. The megafolders are just another layer of safety.

Does that make sense?

And I rationalize this by telling myself that a waved folder is faster than a bali/auto... period.

This is what i tell myself too.

I have tried and tried to beat my buddy on the draw with my autos. He wins every time with his Emerson. Even had some LEOs join in, and they lost way worse than I did. I will say, I can get to the reverse grip faster than he can, but those wave folders are fast on the draw.

We can tote what we want here, anything under 5 inches is considered a tool, anything over has to be open carried or you must have your CWP to carry it concealed.

Reverse grip draw?

Well, CM, you are a special case, but nonetheless, that's tight. I will not show my buddy though, he will never shut up.

I do agree that it would be stupid to get a knife seized that has such value; moreover, as you stated, it's just not worth it.

I feel the same way. I like daggers, push knives and trench knives.

But I don't really indulge, because they sit at home.

Since we're on this subject, I've always wondered if Bladeshow is held in my state, because of its knife laws?

Very true. My sickness is not rational.
I don't think it's sickness even I didn't grow up on your streets.
To me is common sense, longer blade means longer reach and deeper penetration, if I ever have to rely on knife for SD, I rather have those.

My BM 5000 Presidio remains locked up in the cabinet for going on 10 years ---mainly because my manual version 520 works so much better on the practical side of things.

I can carry an auto legally in this state also.
