No more "Idaho Made"??

Too bad, looks like they are still coming out with the IM stamp on them............ :thumbdn:

I have not purchased a CRK knife since they changed to this stamp. I'll just hang on to the ones I have without the "Made in Chi.. I mean Idaho" stamp on them.

I've bought a few of CRKs since they started the engraving. They were all vintage models apart from the Mnandi that has no engraving any way. :p:thumbup:

Just got 2 Pacific with sterile blades....wanting to get a Nyala, but cannot stand that ugly stamp....cheapens the whole appearence IMHO......I am only interested in the quality and style, not an free ad for where it was made. If I cant get a sterile, I may be forced to buy a chinese knock-off.......thats how bad I think it looks>

If I wasn't throwing so much $ at my education, I would buy the knives regardless of the engraving/stamp.

Good to see that quality and style can be interchanged with cheap knockoffs...For a minute there, I was confused.

Cheap-Fast-Good....Pick two-

not an free ad for where it was made.

A free ad for where it's made? So CRK is advertising Idaho? Interesting. And you'd rather buy a cheap Chinese knockoff to avoid the stamp? That would indicate you're more about having the CR logo than the CR quality if that's the case, which is ironic in itself since that CR logo is more of a "free ad for where it's made" than Idaho Made.

I told a little lie when I said I have not purchased since the new stamp.

When it first came out I just took an instant dislike to it, in my view it is not in keeping with the rest of the knife. I decided I should handle one in the flesh (so to speak) and bought an LE large Sebenza with camphor inlays. Well after seeing it in person, the new stamp really does look ordinary.

I won't be buying any new CRK stuff until the stamp is changed.

I have already purchased way too many Reeves, so at least now I have an excuse other than saving money not to buy more. For most of the Reeve knives IMHO the stamp has no real impact, the model that is ruined in my opinion is the plain 21 small and large, the other models like the LE, graphic design, Umnumzaan are already pretty aesthetically busy so it doesn't ruin those.

Now there's an idea. Why didn't we all think of that??? :(

Idaho Made stamp had no bearing on the purchase of my Large Sebenza 21.

Isn't the IM made logo small? How is it any different than made in china or made in USA on other knives?

It doesn't affect the way the knife cuts, just a small portion of how it looks. I'm still buying one either way, unless I get my handgun first, and couldn't care less about a little stamp

I'm currently extremely close to purchasing a small sebenza (my first CRK) and having the stamp on there won't affect my purchase. In fact I kind of like having it proudly show it was made in the US.

I will just save my money. To me it cheapens the overall look of the knife, kind of like what a tramp stamp does to a woman. IMO it was kind of an arrogant move to continue the stamp while ignoring the backlash of the knife community. I've heard many other Chris Reeve fans say that they will stop purchasing CRKs because of the stamp. That's quite a statement if you ask me.

Stubborness, arrogance, I don't know quite what to call it but I wish Chris would just snap out of it so we can start buying sebenzas again. But until then, well, I guess a few customs will suffice :D

Anyone have a picture of this "annoying" Idaho stamp? I'm new pretty new to the knife scene and am curious to see what the hub-bub is about, especially since the Sebenza is right on the top of my wishlist (once I have several hundred dollars in expendable income  )... I googled and couldn't find a good pic of it.

You can check out the "Just Photos of CRK folders" stickied at the top of this forum to see some examples. Obviously, you'll need to start at the end and work your way up since the stamp is relatively new. You can also go to www.knifeart.com and look at the photos they have. They show the stamp. It's not horrible, but many (myself included) feel it would have been better if it was stamped the other way. When you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about. As it looks now, it's upside down compared to how the word Classis is stamped on the Classic models. While I don't much care for the stamp, I think some folks are blowing it way out of proportion and making a much bigger deal of it than needs be. Kinda like the poster above who feels the stamp is bad enough to justify him buying cheap Chinese knockoffs instead of the actual one.

I just looked at my Sebenza, and i see what you are referencing about the stamp being "upside down".

I think i know the thought process behind the decision though:

Look at a US Armed Services uniform, the US Flag looks like it's "backwards", with the Stars leading. From what i heard, it's supposed to represent the flag being on a pole, moving forward, hence the position of the flag. I guess Chris figured his "Idaho Made" stamp is supposed to be forward leading.

This is just my opinion, i have no idea about any decision why.

Thanks Medic,

I saw a bunch of pictures, now I want one even more... for me the Idaho Made stamp doesn't detract from the knive... I really like it. Of course, I'm a bit of an Idaho fan...

the "Idaho Made" is not my cup of tea by a long shot but if I find a knife that I must have and it has the stamp, then guess what? I will buy it. BUT, the secondary market has been getting hit much harder by me.
I am a CRK fan for life so I guess it is what it is.

I understand the thinking of those that dislike the stamp. I prefer the knife without but it didn't stop me from snagging a couple of Lg Sebbies. The rest of my family are stamp free. But it makes me wonder was there such an uproar about the "Classic" version? There's stamping on it in the same spot the "Idaho Made" occupies now. At least there is on my micarta Classic. I only started buying in Nov of last year so I was able to pick up older stock without the stamp. But that means I wasn't around for earlier incarnations. I was just curious if the community had a similar reaction to the stamping on the classic version.

I'm ok with the stamp, but I think that it could have been far superior if Chris decided to make the mark an artistic design rather than the basic stamp he chose.
