No More Spyderco For Me!

Independent. What is your attitude towards Spyderco C/S currently? I realize you have been verbally beat up for your comments as a newbie. When spyderco personally addresses your problems with ways to contact them, has that mellowed your feelings for Sal & company? Just curious. Welcome to the forum.

I have only once e-mailed Spyderco (Joyce Laituri), asking about any representatives in Mexico, and I got a quick, nice and useful answer.

I have bought four Spydies and my brother has several, all great knives, I am more of a traditional slipjoint fan, yet I am a return customer of Spyderco and will surely continue to be.

Independent, wellcome, enjoy the forums, I hope you´ll get over a bad fiist impression of Spyderco, and other forumites get over a bad first impression of you.

This thread has gotten quite long quite fast, maybe it´s time to put it aside and carry on.

Joyce answered my e-mail within a matter of hours. Now if only she'd post her home phone instead of playing hard to get :(

Hello Independent.

Welcome to the Bladeforums.

Thanx Joyce.

To all of you; Thanx for all of the support, we are overwhelmed.

Independent, We accept your apology.

The best place for info on the new "fly" is to scroll down to the balisong / butterfly forum. It was that group that prompted the design and production of the Spyderfly. They know more about it than most of my own staff. I've been sharing info with them through-out the development of the project. They were the first to see pics, even before our dealers & distributors.

They are a great group and that is the place to learn about balisongs in general and the Spyderfly in particular.

You might also visit the Spyderco site. Our visitors are special. Intelligent, rational communication with insight and depth.

Hey Needle, I like ramen noodles!

By the way, I posted a question about the Belgian Spyderco representative on the Spyderco forum here and mister Glesser answered it a day later, try something like that or use the search feature there...

WillyD, I can understand why Spyderco tries to keep the lid on new products until they are just about ready to introduce them. As an example, let me mention what is happening with the Camillus CUDA MAXX 7" Gibbs folder. Last July, they announced this knife and said tat there would be only a limited run of them so that those who wanted one should order one. A significant number of us got on the telephones and on the Web to order them from various dealers, even sending the money for them. The tentative word was that production was scheduled for October or November of this year. Now, I read that Camillus has had some problems with this and/or one of their other models and that production of the 7" CUDA MAXX has been pushed back. What they have now is a lot of unhappy customers and dealers waiting for the production run on a fairly expensive knife that some have had on order for nearly four months, fully paid. I was once in this position before, with the Spyderco/Terzuola Clipit Junior C-19 when it was delayed for some months in production and it was not a happy time then, either, so I can understand why Sal & Co. don't really want to make a big thing about new models until just before they are ready to ship them.

I was thinking...could you guys put a sound on the page? When you enter the site it could play some spyderco theme. That'd be cool. It could be like

Spyderco, Spyderco, Noting can beat a Spyderco
Way sharper than other knives, it doesn't catch the sheeples eyes
Look out, here comes the Spyderco.

Is it strong? Listen bud. It's Resin handles are really tough
Can it hang from a clip? Oh yeah man, Sal invented it!
Hey, there! That's a nice Spyderco!

You'll use it all the time, it's as light as a dime
With the Spyderhole it will deploy every time.

Spyderco, Spyderco, Noting can beat a Spyderco
Wealth and fame, Sal's ignored, While he and Joyce visit the boards
Look out, here comes the Spyderco

Spyderco, Spyderco, Noting can beat a Spyderco
They're better than any sword, use the lanyard hole for some paracord
To them, life's a great chop up Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spyderco!

to the tune of the Spiderman theme. And then there could be a neat flash animation of a kiwi bouncing over the lyrics....now that would be some awesome customer service. I'll be glad to sing

I think that some of us on the forum were too quick to treat independent like he was a troll. I think that it is best to always give a newbie the benefit of the doubt. Although the tone on the forum has gotten calmer, I think that Independent may have been run off. If that's the case, it's too bad because I personally wanted him to learn about how neat Spyderco is as a company whether he actually liked the knives or not.

Well.

I'm glad this got cleared up pretty well before I read it. I don't want to have to squish anymore newbies under my boot if I don't have to. (I'm still trying to get bits of "weapon woman" off my shoe)

I hope independant can get back on the right track here, now that he's got Sal and Joyce and everyone else bending over backwards for him.

Anyway, welcome, independant. Be nice, and we'll be nice.

::waving at Joyce::

I took the liberty of sending Independant an email inviting him to check out the Spyderco-responses here. He may be impressed to read who has noticed his concerns in Golden!

Is it worth it to try? I think so.

Spyderco has great customer service. Very responsive and also looks to the user base for input on future knife designs and alterations to existing designs. I don't know if any other production company does this.

sounds like you are/were just looking for some excuse. For this is one of the very reasons I turned to Spyderco. You got some really big ego dude - Either you are very unhappy, or there is so much of you,you can't see past yourself.
I'd guess you've really never been loyal to anyone but yourself anyway. Good for Spyderco I would say.

Apparently I have to declare upfront that I have no probs with spydercos and although I don't own any, I read their forum occasionally and Mr. Glaser is probably one of the best knife company reps posting on the forum.

This is my HO regarding the topic. It's not about Spyderco or any other knife or non knife company in particular.

I am not going to educate any company how important customer service is, I assume they know all that better than me. Whatever I say, it more of a customer's point of view.

In short, I respectfully disagree with fellow forumites who think that answering, or to be precise not answering email is no big deal these days. Especially on constant basis and especially if you are in eBusiness one way or another. And selling/promoting your products on the web does count as eBusiness, I hope everyone agrees on that.

The email we're speaking about is the one posted by company on its website as usual, or published in some other way. I.e. explicitily says "contact us" using this email. IMHO that means taking responsibility for that email and answering it. How is that(not answering email) different from publishing the phone and then not answering it I don't quite understand.
After all it's better not to publish that email at all, than publish it and forget about it.
Company website and email need maintenance, and answering email is part of it. After all using internet for profit is cool with everyone, hence some maintenance shouldn't be something unusual.
Yes, I do know how much of spam is circulating these days, I have a website too, and I get few hundred emails a day. Still, there are tools allowing to deal with all that at acceptable level. I don't think it's unmanagable.

Obviously having a forum where company rep. is always there and can help to answer your questions is a lot. Most of the time better than email. But believe it or not there are lots of people who never heard of any knife forums at all, or have some reason for not posting on public forum.

Gee, with a dumb name like that you probably don't even own ANY Spydercos!

;) :D ;)

Hi independent. I didn't post so I won't say we told you so, however... an appearance by Sal and/or Joyce isn't a rarity 'round this place, it's commonplace, especially on the Spyderco Forum. Sal was also kind enough to show the first public photos of the Spyderfly simultaneously, on the Balisong and Spyderco Forums. You're welcome to come on over to the Balisong forum, and we'll try to answer any questions you have about the Spyderfly. Don't be shy, we don't bite; but the balisongs can.

I'm very angry with Spyderco's QC! I just got my my first one and the thing has a hole in it! What the!

:p  I know, corny.

I second that Spyderco song, Great lyrics LOL

I must have a mental block, every time I type Spyderco I type S-Y-D-E-R-C-O-[backspace]-[backspace]-[backspace]-[backspace]-[backspace]-[backspace]-P, To my dissatifaction. Why is that?

Sal, Eric's (I forgot what it's called)sailor knife is very very cool!

Gator97, you're right, but there could be other forces at work here. I once ordered a system from Handamerican.com and my order didn't come in the first month. So I sent a few e-mails and got no response. Then I called and left a message (I was in Korea at the time so the time zones were screwy for me). It turned out my e-mails were getting caught in their spam filter. They made things more than right once they did ship it, I got lots of extra goodies with my system to comensate for the delay. That's why I feel independent's post is out of line, because he hasn't bothered to try an alternate mode of communication. If Spyderco consistently didn't answer their e-mail that would be a different story. But problems do occur no matter what communication method you use, so there's no need to bitch about it publicly until you've been ignored through multiple channels.

It is nice to see Spyderco representative here and the way they handled this case :) .... It is sad to see other forumites calling each oter names :( . The guy just said he did not like the fact he did not receive an e-mail response and that he would not buy their knives again... It was his opinion and his choice. He did not say anything close to "the knives are bad, do not buy them" .... You had great experience with Spyderco, he did not. Is that a reason for chasing him away?

David

Roadrunner, I totaly agree with you about this particular case. Forum is here and doesn't look like ther was any reason for not posting question here. Also, Spyderco is doing more than great job communicating with all the spyderfans ;)
Anyway, my post was disagreement with "it's ok not to answer company posted email" position. BTW Sal didn't say that, some forum members expressed that idea and I don't think it's ok. That's all :)

Actually, most of the butterfly emails are forwarded to me. I've been travelling for most of the past several months and many bit of paper are stacked and waiting.
