Silver thanks for the info bud!! I can see some of the benefits of a recurve on a multi use weapon/woods blade, but on a dedicated chopper i personally wouldnt prefer it.

And I dont doubt the ability of a good kukri chopper in the right hands either, Its just the sweet spot on them is more limited and takes more practice to be utilized to its potential IMO.

For instance the BK4 VS BK9, i personally prefer to use the BK4... just because its more fun to use... But most people will readily admit the BK9 makes a better chopper.

Same steel, same thickness, similar grinds... Id say the straight edge is what gives it better performance for most users.

That indeed is interesting WW, however the problem I see with it is most knifemakers whos already have waiting lists are not prone to go out and look for those kinda projects. It may attract a type that has no business making a knife in the first place. For example, you post something up and say who wants to do it. I promise you Jerry Fisk, Don Hanson, or Ed Fowler arent going to step up. That might be a extreme example but my point is. If a knife maker is scrounging for work, theres probably a good reason. I may be wrong, thats just my 2 cents. I would suggest you contact a maker whos reputable, and whos work you like, then present him your design. If he cant or wont do it go to the next.

Thats a very good point Todd. I hadn't even considered that but your right. And thats probably why it doesnt exist lol

Anyone ever have absolutely sh!t days for no apparent reason? Spent the whole day feeling stressed and pissed off despite the fact that the most I did today was get a haircut...

You may be going through the change. Consider hormone therapy.

LMAO, YES!! I have days like that as well. My wife says its my PMS days.

Had one the other day, I was walking to get my daughter from school and was running a few minutes late and a guy i never seen before, standing on his porch, yelled over to ask me a random question about rappers and which rap song i thought was better. SO i answered i was in a hurry and didnt have time to talk and he went on the ask me the question again... And me being an a$$hole i got a little angry with him and said, "you dont understand what im in a hurry means do you?" And i said it with an attitude, couple bad words, and an evil look....SO i felt like a total d!ck and on the way back i stopped and apologized for getting rude with him. The guy was literally SHOCKED i came back and apologized for being rude. Thats how crappy this city is. Everyone expects you to have an attitude and no one expects any manners. But i was in the wrong, i didnt care to have that conversation with the guy, but i had no right to be a total douche.

Bad days happen, the older you get the more of them you'll see too.

As they say "A rolling stone gathers no moss" or maybe more so in my case. No rest for the wicked. If I wasn't busy enough. I just started my 3rd job. That's right. 3rd. One of my best friends in life owns a trucking company. He recently bought a fiberglass business that makes custom truck parts. On top of that, he started a custom shop that no only installs all of this stuff but offers frame streching and custom fab work. Right now he's got a ton on his plate and trying to make the big truck shows. He's begged me to come work for him for years as a metal fabricator. (What I went to college for) but there's a lot of politics involved. Anyway, he's in a bind and I can't turn my back on him, he has helped me and always had a job for me when my going got tuff, so, as of this week I'm officially on his payroll. This is one of his personal trucks. We made all of the fenders and streched the frame.

This second truck in the video is Super Freak. Its in the shop right now. I've been working nights, this has been my project.

Take Fri. night off. work 16 hours Saturday. 8 for him. 8 for knives. then work 12 hours making knives on Sunday. Doesnt look like Im going to see the light of day up until the Blade show.:grumpy: At least Im helping out my buddy and its a honest living.

inneresting.
I get fewer.
Though Sunday Blues persist.

EGAD, Todd!
Hire out that puppy as a therapy dog and take an evening off!
(waitaminute, maybe if I worked that hard I'd be a successful knifemaker too...)

I think there should be a dedicated section on the board where you could ask custom makers to make a knife you designed...
Im surprised this doesnt already exist really.

That's a fantastic idea! In fact, it does already exist, and has for some time. If you had scrolled down one more click from the Services Offered subforum, you would have found Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services

;)

Then again, there are already some pretty awesome knifemakers right here in the Becker forum, so why would you need to look elsewhere? Hmmmm?

Theres nothing therapeutic about picking up puppy sh!t. Besides, its not about needing the money. Its about helping my buddy out. Its not the most oprotune time for me, but, he would and has done the same for me. So, I figure I can dig deep for a few months if it helps.

I thought i seen that before. I was looking forever, not sure how i missed it. Doesnt look like it gets used... Unless only knife makers can even see the threads.

And your right there are plenty of great knife makers here!! Im not discrediting anyone here at all, but a while back i posted a picture of a khopesh type design, and it seems like for something like that it might be hard to find the right maker. And Im not saying im for sure going with a design like that. I honestly havent made up my mind what im doing, it might be a huge survival type knife, or it could be a short thick woods sword type design.... Im just researching options at the moment. This isnt something that will happen right away for sure. But when it does happen it will have anywhere from a 13"-18" blade regardless of what design i end up choosing.

It gets used quite a bit; there's almost two pages of new threads in the last month. I've gotten a couple jobs from there. I think if you're not a maker you have to start a thread to see it all... something like that.

Shit Todd. How are you finding any time for more frivolous activities like sleeping and eating. Good luck with the extra work. You're doing a stand-up thing helping your friend. Just make sure you don't burn out.

No worries bubba, you are joining an elite group called "Man." Ok, it isn't so elite but yeah. We all have those days some will take the day and get drunk at 8am, some will grin and bear it, some will go to a shooting range and blow off steam, some will go crazy and climb a bell tower and shoot 16 people at university. I suggest the grin and bear it method and just remember that was yesterday. What happened yesterday is done and it will have no impact on what happens tomorrow. Unless of course you do something like the bell tower scenario, that will affect tomorrow.

I dunno about MORE of them but they certainly happen. It's actually been scientifically proven that men do get hormonal shifts in their systems monthly. I wouldn't call it PMS but for lack of a better term it does cover it.

So, we figured out why I can't sleep... I always wondered! Thanks! :D
And yeah, sometimes putting yourself through a little extra hell to help a friend balances out in the end.

Is the truck shop something you can make enough at that you can quit the job you hate? That would be kind of an ideal situation right? Working with a friend doing something you're good at, and not at a place you hate with people you like.

(waitaminute, maybe if I worked that hard I'd be a successful knifemaker too...)
No, you're not allowed to work that hard! It takes me forever already to get your knives!

Wow man... You are a good buddy! Hope everything pays off for you! I know how those long days can feel after awhile. Went through a couple of stints like that while working in the oil field. Drive for 16 hours... then it was manual labor for another 20 on the rig... a couple hours of sleep... and another day lost next to a genset or crawled up inside a drawworks. I also was working 3.5 to 4+ hours away from home and was barely getting to see the kiddos. I swear I would come home after a 4-5 days and they would look completely different. Either way man, good luck to you.

Cool bead. The Vantage pic makes me crazy...mine has gone missing, somehow. I carried some Kershaws for a few days and now the Buck has disappeared. I think the KAI fairies came into my house and absconded with it.

Man that really sucks. The vantage is awesome!!

Ok so I have been moonlighting at a hardware store and last night I had a maybe 13 year old kid come in with his dad, look around, then ask to check out. The boy then stated he needed one of the Leathermans to purchase. While the boy was paying he started saying things like, collection, and other knife nut buzz words, and then as he was counting his money he said he just spent most of his cash on a very expensive knife. I asked him what did he buy. He told me an Esee 5. So I just smiled and rambled off all the specs I could remember about it and the kid got flabbergasted. I just laughed and then when I gave him his change I told him to start saving up for a KA-BAR Becker, then told him they are better than Esees anyways... Just to razz him a bit... LOL his face was priceless, you could tell I'd hit nerve... On a side note his dad looked 100% completely lost the whole time HAHAHA!
