If you go on a hike, do you leave the weight as is? I try to take just what i think I'll need. Then, on the other hand, I think that if we got stranded in the woods somewhere, I wouldn't have my tarp, etc.

Yeah, pretty much . My every day pack doubles as my day hike pack. I just drop a couple items and add a couple different items. I pack heavy no matter the situation really.

I'd have to go for short hikes if I did that, haha. I think I had 40-45 in my MAP when we hiked the 3 miles at Taum Sauk in Missouri. Liked to killed me. Very uneven terrain, and lots of uphill, downhill stuff. Good lesson for me. I only packed that heavy to see how comfortable the MAP was. It did okay, my legs were the problem.

I just calipered the steel and its actually .265" thick not 1/4" thick. Even better for me..... But does steel normally vary in thickness from what you order?... maybe i didnt say that right i mean, when you order a certain size steel does it often come a little thicker? Does it ever come a little thinner?

Off work for 2 days!! Working one getting the heat exchanger changed in my pos Daewoo this morning, fishing this afternoon if I finish the car, and copious amounts of alcohol tonight.

Hmm maybe, i never tried either... lets get a forum vote on

Maker's Mark or Knob Creek?

I think ill eventually try both..I heard some good things about Jim Beam Black as well. Never tried it either but i heard it is a lot different than regular Jim Beam.

What your wanting to order specifically is "precision ground". All 1/4 in stock is born in the .260 to .285 range. then its taken to a surface grinder and made into precision ground 1/4in. and usually its dead on. You can visually tell its precision ground by its appearance by the fine grind marks on it. I cant quite tell by your picture but it doesnt look like its been ground. If it has been and you requested precision ground, then whoever was at the controls of the surface grinder sure didnt know what they where doing.
Will this effect the balance of your knife. Your damn right it will. last time I bought a peice of steel big enough to make almost 30 M-18s I couldnt get it in precision ground because there was no surface grinder around that big. so, what I got was .265 ish. I went ahead and made a M-18 out of it for R&D to see what the difference was. The balance of the knife was so far off it was terrible. Night and day difference. (it will never leave the shop) Me and Murph spent the next 4 months shaving about .0020 off of each one. wont go that route again.

Thanks Todd for the reply!!

In this case i dont mind that its .265 as i havent even decided on a design for it yet... i ordered it spur of the moment with no real plan except eventually having something BIG made with it, but i could see this being a problem for someone wanting specific specs. But now i know if i need it a specific size to order precision ground.

Yep. thats exactly right. if you want it to be dead nutz 1/4, 3/16, 1/8 or whatever, besure to tell them precision ground and any steel provided especially Aldo will hook you up. If you want, you should be able to take that peice you got to about any machine shop to be ground if you, but just one peice like that they are gonna make it worth there while so it may cost ya.

Yea buddy, i really like that HI farm knife as well. Is that a disco model?

It sure is..... If you look carefully, you can see on one nestled in the small of Travolta's back in both Saturday Night Fever and Stayin' Alive..... Also rumored he carried in Grease and Urban Cowboy.... But those aren't classified as disco....

Doc

Non-p-ground can also have some scale that's MISERABLE to sand off... Ugh. It varies by steel and supplier.

WW, Both are good bourbons. Knob is much higher in alcohol with a slight maple sugar tinge to it. Quite nice, but I have to have an ice cube in mine. Maker's is much sweeter. They're rather opposite ends of the spectrum. Both are very good. Maker's makes a fabulous manhattan (normally made with rye). I wouldn't mix Knob with anything.

Thanks man, From that i might lean more towards knob creek first. Stronger and not as sweet sounds good for this friday night.

Geeze. I just realized how much I spent on guns this month. I got some cool stuff, but I really should have put that towards my credit card.

Surely you made gravy with all that pan goodness. Good lord that made me hungry.

Morning.
I kicked some breakfast butt today.
That you sure did! That picture was zen-like. I needed that.... Now I need some sausage.

I picked up something while out and about this morning. They were kind enough to include a washer.

 Oh well, I've been meaning to take it in to a shop and check the alignment. Now I have an excuse not to be lazy and actually go.
