Thanks guys...Feeling better today after I drank some cranberry juice and watched Dirty Dancing. Jokes :D. Guess it was just one of those days. Anyway, got my new cobalt drill bits in so gonna head out and see how much I can get done in the shop.

Since I have not been to Tennessee lately and have been unable to stock up on my beloved Black & Tan, I've been branching out and trying some new beers. I really like Newcastle.

there's a magic hat brand out there that's good and lovely, even better than new castle

I've never had much luck with getting decent sparks from stainless and some chromium alloys. I'm talking about a flint rock not a ferro rod.

I understand. I could be wrong but I don't think Case's CV has much chrome in it. Isn't it pretty close to/the same as 1095CV?

By george it is. Beckers spark quite well so the Case just might be the ticket. I just tried with my Queen mountain man in D2 and just about set the carpet on fire. That was kind of surprising to me.

That is kind of the way it feels. A lot of condensing gear and finding lost items. My daily carry with the BPP was apparently up to 53 lbs.

53, damn. I have crap scattered all over the place. I need to organize better. Some stuff I have in my lg ALICE BOB, some in the MAP, and some in my sling bag.

Great knife, love mine.

The neat thing about D2 is that it has so much carbon, almost all the 11-12% chrome is tied up in carbides. Hence, high wear-resistance, not really stainless, and it throws sparks.

On a semi-related note, I don't have any flint but I've always wanted to try using it with 3V... Chip and I were discussing it and in theory it should work... I just never got around to sending him any samples. :o

Yeah, I didn't notice until I went to switch and seen what all I had in it. I said "hell, that's gotta be too much gear". I loaded it back in and weighed it, just a hair over 53lbs. The MAP is carrying a lot less now. I haven't checked it. I don't get too hung up on weighing gear. I just thought most of it had to be unnecessary though.

WW, I will agree that a recurve, especially a steep one, has a much larger learning curve, and its a LOT easier to hit wrong and also to glance from twisting your wrist when the belly strikes off angle.
I have a Love Hate relationship with recurves and kukri, they hit way above their weight, but they can be a real pain sometimes. One of my favorite large blade patterns is actually the HI Farm knife. I dont know if I want one of theirs, but I do want one shaped that way, and in that size range.

Yea buddy, i really like that HI farm knife as well. Is that a disco model?

Ill be picking up some Newcastle and a bottle of Makers Mark Friday. Is it Newcastle Brown Ale, or whats the good one you guys are raving about?

Didnt get any sleep at all the last couple nights. Earlier, around 5:30PM, I leaned back in my recliner to watch a show..... and i just woke up around 1130PM.

6 HOURS sleep!!! :D :D I feel like a new man.

HI makes a lot of good copies.

in this case, the rambo / parang

buy the kabar one :D

Ill be getting the Kabar one for sure... But im pretty sure the HI is a bit thicker than .188", probably more like 3/8" and would likely work better chopping for me. But the Parangatang is on my short list regardless. I dont even see the HI one being sold anymore anyway.

Most of the HI stuff doesn't actually appear on the website. Anything you want, they can probably make for you. Just shoot Auntie Yangdu an email.

For instance, you probably won't see this one on the website:

If you go on a hike, do you leave the weight as is? I try to take just what i think I'll need. Then, on the other hand, I think that if we got stranded in the woods somewhere, I wouldn't have my tarp, etc.

I got my steel earlier today. Have to say im impressed with Aldo's service on this transaction. I called in my order because i wanted a size not listed on the website and he talked to me for a good while, even told me he was planning a kind of meet and greet and since i lived only a couple hours away i was welcomed to come. He also told me he has his own water jet  I want to take a trip over there just to check out the water jet in action HAHA

Steel shipped yesterday. I got it today. I only live 2 hours away though.

Heck im only a few hours away from Peter's too... I wonder if he would let me watch how some heat treating works LOL, would be a great learning "field trip"
