Didnt you buy one of those Kalamazoo grinders a while back..... Thought I read that somewhere.
No I didnt end up getting it, cant remember what now but something else came up. But i almost got another belt grinder that i found on craigslist a month ago or so, but i decided it might not be a great plan to set up a shop in my basement with no exhaust or windows. It would be hard to clean out and id likely die from all the fumes and dust id create down there.
I like the looks of the bottom chopper JD. If I could offer you one peice of advice, wieghin in at 3.7 lbs. isnt going to do anything but wear you out. you won't be chopping long with it. I'd definately take some weight out. Its not going to hinder the chopping ability as long as its ground accordinly and correctly.
I like how that bottom one looks as well!!
Im no expert by any means, and everybody prefers different stuff.... but from talking to Dan i have gathered on a Competition type chopper, or even just a dedicated big chopper you want a minimum of 24 ounce weight, but going over 32 ounces wont do much of anything for performance but will definitely tire you out faster.
My comp chopper is at 32 ounces. And thats on the heavy side because it was a 2x4 derby knife. I think Dan said he now uses a 28 ounce one in bladesports competition.
