No weapons signs/zones. Obey or ignore?

I am afraid that the "urban" areas are the ones that actually see people using knives as weapons. More laws are always the answers in the urban lawmakers books. Regardless, the law abiding pay for the criminal's acts through their loss of freedom.

I carry right past those signs.... I have my CCW permit, and I ignore those signs.. UNLESS it is an airport, or courthouse.

Schools, church, bars, I am carrying.. If they see my gun, and ask me to leave.. I must, and will. In Minnesota, you are not required legally to abide by those signs..

Harley,
I thought Georgia had the most liberal gun laws. Here you will get arrested because you are breaking the law and not just policy. Especially school are very antio weapon. Even a pocket knife like a small classic Victorinox on a keychain carried by a parent into the school.

I agree though, I carry wherever there is a sign like in movie houses and businesses. But carrying in a bar or school is the same as carrying at the courthouse or airport where I live.

Minnesota is great! Can you have a concealed gun in your car without a CCW? Here in Georgia anyone can because it is considered an extension of your home.

In Ky. you can have a gun, in your car in open sight, or in your glove box, without a permit. Or openly carried on your side.

Do we prepare our supper with a weapon ? Do we cut our steak with a weapon ? Do we use a weapon to open a box ? NO, no & no. WE DO SO WITH A TOOL. You can turn anything into a weapon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapon

Spoons, forks, toothbrush, pens, pencils, stones, dirt, table pepper, salt, shoes, shoe laces, hammer, nails, pry bar, chair leg braces, credit cards, CD's, drivers licenses, etc..., etc... the list is really endless, can be used as a weapon. But they are not weapons.

A cashier at a gas station asked me "what is that weapon for ?" once. I was Off-Duty. I had a Cold Steel Recon 1 inside my pocket & she saw the clip. I looked at her & calmly said " it is NOT a weapon, it is a tool, one that i use numerous times through out the day." I then turned to the lady behind me & asked her: "do you use a weapon to prepare dinner ?" She said "no." I then asked the cashier "do you cut your steak with a weapon ?" She said "no." I then looked at her with a puzzled look & said "Well, there you have it...right from your own mouth, it is NOT a weapon. I have been a Correction Officer for almost 26 yrs. There are PLENTY of people in prison for killing someone with a hammer. Yet ANYONE OF ANY AGE can buy one damn near anywhere.

PA is an open carry state the only place you can't carry is a class 1 city and we only have one in PA, Philly.

Now on the other hand if you have a ccw and get caught carrying in plain sight while you have your permit, you could get into trouble for c carrying fear in the citizens, go figure that out, an old timer once told me only take/show your concealed weapon when you plan to be Pullin that trigger to ensure the outcome of your family/self because you and your family agree mortally afraid for your life, remember never stop and think and then start again, that's premeditated and not an act of fear or or Passion, these things are vagaries you can address in court to get a reduced sentence,

Some times I think I should take the card outta the pocket and show the gun, at least most people will think twice about messin' with you...

Although there's a lot to be said for covert chisel so only I know I have it...

There was a sub in my high school who always had a Swiss Army knife dangling from his keys on his belt and I always thought it was funny how a 70+-year-old would do that. Here in Wisconsin it is a VERY bad idea to carry in school. People got suspended or expelled for having toys or for accidentally bringing a weapon to school. I know a few people who kept knives in their cars but even that was ill-advised because someone got expelled when another student saw a weapon in their car. Many businesses have no weapons signs now that concealed carry is in effect. What do you guys do about church? I usually have a knife in my pocket (and I've used it quite a few times) but it's clearly marked as a no-carry zone.

In Ky. you can have a gun, in your car in open sight, or in your glove box, without a permit. Or openly carried on your side.

According to my father who's from KY if you have a permit for concealed weapons the general rule is; if you can hide it on your person you can carry it.

It's only people on knife forums that even think about "carrying" knives the same way people in general think about "carrying" guns. Never, at least in my state, have I seen any place that countermanded state law regarding knives. We have laws that cover firearms and anyplace that wants to restrict the carry of firearms on their premises must post a very specifically worded sign that states that they do not allow firearms.

The only place I've ever been to that restricts knives in any way is a national chain live music venue that also doesn't allow such horrid things as women carrying purses.

Yeah, I don't go there anymore.
