Sorry for my harsh words, cats and kittens... but that sort of baloney sausage really gets me riled up.

Because the folks who own this forum, and the mods who actually run it (for free), and my favorite mentors; plus the just-plain-folks who build up these communities that allow fans and makers alike to have fun and develop great knives, have bent over backwards to support us all.

I don't take kindly to (unpleasant persons) running it down.

I have stencils stickers that 710 had made for me and im going to practice out on a couple blades that i wont be upset if i mess up.

You don't have to break one of your cell phone chargers.

Unless you a terminal neat freak (or your wife is), I bet you have a AC-DC power converter of some sort lying around in a box somewhere that goes to some electronic device that died and you still have the power supply to it. I know I have a box of them. I mean, the thing still works even if the item it went with died, so I keep the old ones. On more than one occasion I have saved the day by pulling an old left over charger out of the box and matching it up with the requirements that someone had for a missing/lost/dead charging device.

If you don't I bet your neighbor has one. Another source would be at one of the local hotels. Most of them have a box full of all kinds of chargers that people have left in their rooms. You could probably sweet-talk them out of one of them.

I have 3 friends, I think the 4 of us could be "professional launchers" for this... I'm the "skinny one" out of the 4 of us. I'm knocking on 300. I think as long as the thing doesn't pop, we could launch folks for some GOOD hang time.

I have a few extra chargers. And i have an extra computer power cord thingy... Im just worried about the possibility of being shocked by playing with 2 loose wires connected into the wall. I have seen a bunch of wiring schematics and parts lists but i dont really understand the A/C and D/C thing and dont want to go experimenting with electricity. My luck ill get bored after having several beers and go in there to etch a knife and end up touching the 2 wires together on accident and get lit up like a xmas tree.

And would that cell phone charger just be A/C darkening? SO i would still need to "etch" with D/C?
 
totally see where you are coming from, but the guy had posted here like 4 times since 2009.. I think he was pissed at getting the infraction out of the blue, I know a lot of people used to come to BF just because he was here.. I still think he went about it the wrong way of course, but this place used to be a lot different, hitting him out of the blue with an infraction is kind of silly when he has posted once a year for 4 years and hadn't been on since like august, they could have emailed him to ask him to change it... whatever anyway, not like I could ever afford one of his folders, lol. The size this place is dictates a payment structure, just for the shear amount of bandwidth, I know not everyone agrees, but it keeps the lights on and what is fair for one is fair for the other...

tech forum said they were testing ads to make sure none crashed the site.. they are going to start them up again I guess. Shouldn't be for gold and up I don't think though..
 
The cell phone charger is a converter device. It takes the 110/120V AC from the wall and and 'converts' it to xV DC where x is whatever DC voltage value the particular device the charger came with needs to operate properly (i.e., doesn't fry). The label on the charger will have a value on the label, like 6V, 9V, 10V, 12V, etc.

the only way that I know of that you could get hurt playing with the 2 wires coming out of the charger is if you stuck them in your eye. Holding onto the 2 wires from the charger is almost like holding a battery between two fingers.

Now, if you cut the wires loos from the charger on the INPUT side of the charger, skinned'em back, plugged the cord into the wall and held onto the two wires....woohoo - different story.
 
Just found the old man setting for the forums and it has helped very much, changed the theme to "large print" perfect now for my old eyes...

One the first page of every forum, up at the top, are the announcement threads that no one (except OCD types, like me) ever reads. Spark has had one up there since 28 Dec warning that the testing was gonna happen. It is now happening. :D

Holding Ctrl, and hitting the + button does the same thing, on any site.

Lucky for me though, I'm rockin' a pair of Oakley Metal Plate's with laser fitted, custom made......bifocals. Still can't help me see, but I can look.
So....I had to fact check this one, because no way would I have missed something like that...and..it turns out I have selective blindness. Man, I've never even seen those things that were clearly at the top of the page.....maybe my eyes can't focus until they see something like....the name Becker. Plus, those messages aren't even in RED, and they're grayed-out a little, and ALL the things that you're really interested in like "I wonder what page the snark thread is on?" - those things draw your attention, like digital subterfuge...it's almost as if they feel obligated to put those messages there but they really, really don't want us to actually see them.....


.....sniff...sniff...do I smell "conspiracy theory"? :anonymous:
