Haha, I hear ya. There's a guy who has a cabin near me, with a 20 year old son. They're both very interested in Native American type stuff, and the son mentioned he would love to have a tomahawk one of these days. He's getting one.

I'll most likely write a somewhat daily post in a thread made specifically for it, then compile them all at the end and write a long-ish summary/final thoughts/review and put the compilation of daily posts in a thread along with the final write up.

Right now I'm leaning toward the 15, looks like it would cut/slice/shave better than the other tweeners, andsince I already have a 9 for really heavy work, I need a medium size slicer. Plus, price and choil.

Again, thanks for the offer, it's hard to believe someone I've never actually met would do something like that.

Sounds like a good plan. Don't sweat it... like I said, I'm just encouraging you. Ethan and the Beckerheads have been very good to me :)

Got another cold steel trail hawk in the mail today. Gonna mod it a bit, and give it to a friend.

That's very cool. I didn't even mod mine, I just keep it in the garden shed for... whatever.

In other news, my losing streak is over... I finally caught fish today! I was beginning to think I had forgotten how :o Mmmmm, grilled trout for supper.

Alright, I'll give you an update and post a thread whenever I get one.

We need peektchurs of the trout. :D That reminds me, I need to catch a fish for Gunyon's GAW.

What's the hardest use you've put a 15 through? I want to be able to comfortably baton with it, but still be really nimble.
I haven't been able to get mine out to really use it. I just got it last weekend at the gathering. Being that I like to take the new one out and use it, I've found myself to be in a conundrum. I have a new 17 (Coyle outdoors rocks) AND a new 15 from last weekend. :D

I's not a BAD problem to have, but I'm going to have to go out of my way to share some time between them. The first outing or two, I may lean towards my BK17. The main reason for that is because my wife received a BK15 at the gathering, so I know hers will be out and about as well.... All this and I still need to get my new Mark 1 out in the woods.

Gratuitous knife picture.

Oh, if you order from Coyle Outdoors, please be sure to mention me at checkout. He'll tack on an added fee for you because I'm a pain in the ass.

Well, a good day was had here.

Work had a sale special on some specialty burger patties. $25 for 20 10oz burgers......:D

They were the best...that I've ever had..to date.

Got some work done in the back yard. The boy wanted to carve few sticks and I can't say no. Then he said he wanted to be like me with a folding knife and a fixed blade haha.

Oooh, nice new steal Jerry

Fun stuff, TBL!

With that in mind, I'm off to a local brewery/restaurant to get a burger now.

Angie thinks the heads are creepy, so I just chop 'em off and bury 'em in the compost pile with the guts. Stuff the trout with diced onions, minced garlic and some butter, wrap in foil and throw 'em on the grill. Everything in the salad except the tomatoes and dressing came fresh out of our garden this afternoon. :)

Crappy pic, but you get the idea...

You're a class act, Dubz.
Thanks man.

That's very cool. I didn't even mod mine, I just keep it in the garden shed for... whatever.

I'm doing the fairly simple mod. Remove the set screw, grind the eye socket, strip the paint, possible vinegar soak, sanding the handle, and danish oiling it. I may even get the torch out, and put some burn stripes on the handle. Sounds like a lot, but is all simple stuff.

Niiice!
That almost makes me hungry again.

LOL, that does sound like a good problem to have. :D

Honestly I kinda like the look of the 17, but I can't justify 20-30 more dollars for a knife that will do the same jobs, especially since the 15 has a choil and slightly longer blade.

I actually was going to order from Coyle Outdoors, but the 15's are out of stock there.

Now I extend my question to everyone, (I'm sure you're all thrilled :D) what's the toughest thing you've put your 15 through?

EDIT: JT, I keep thinking of other stuff to ask to make sure that whenever I do decide and get the knife, it's truly the test you had in mind. :o Sorry about that. :D So anyway, am I allowed to sand or strip the coating, or change anything about the knife in the 30 day period?

Use it for whatever you think a knife that size should be used for around the camp, kitchen, farm, garden, fishing, hunting, whatever. Mod it however you like, but try it stock on a few things first :)

On second thought... I demand that you skin and butcher both a mouse and an elephant with it :p

Alright. I'll probably take it up on the mountain and sleep in the cabin for the night and give it a good stock testing there before changing anything.

I'm kinda excited, I've never really reviewed anything before. :D

I see someone stealth edited.. :D I don't think elephants are native to this region, but I'll just tell you I skinned one and say I didn't have time to get pics. :D

I'm about 5 or 6 pages behind on snark...

Thought I'd post a photo I took today after tending the new bees. The hives are 3 weeks old now and progressing well, so there should be new bees starting to emerge from the capped cells in 3 or 4 days. It's been windy and rainy on-and-off all week and more of the same is predicted for next week. I did, however, get a good shot of one of the girls out collecting pollen from an Indian Blanket.

Now I'll back up 5 pages and try to catch up on my reading....

Nice shot GSO. Once i get moved im going to order up some praying mantis eggs. I know a couple people who order the eggs every year, hatch them and release them.... Good for the garden and fun for the kids... And adults... to watch.

Not my pictures... They belong to WillyD

Cool pics, guys. Two of my favorite types of bugs. :)
There may be several mantis egg sacks at home waiting to hatch - natural-like. I hope that's what they are, 'cause otherwise there's gonna be a nasty infestation of something less desireable!

Yeah, and I'd really like a good GEC folder too...
